Such an interesting story, slow and too many flashbacks yet it kept me watching. I wish I didn't, I wasted 4 days for nothing, horrible and stupid ending, so many unanswered questions, I am so disappointed.
Not sure why the rating is so low for the show but it's pretty decent. You don't know 'whodunnit' until maybe the last two minutes of the show and it's not who you would expect. I recommend it.
This has the look of quality drama and the setting in Wales ensures some lovely scenery.
The acting is fair to very good in most cases.
The idea that we start with the murder and know who the victim is is quite novel but then the problems begin.
We have to endure 15 days worth of action before the admittedly surprising denouement.
Even over 4 episodes it feels at times that the story is stretched a little too much and one's interest can flag at times because of that.
The setting is gloomy throughout and the characters are, with a few exceptions, the most unpleasant bunch of people you hope you never have to encounter. All human frailty is on display.
I found the scenes of animal cruelty unnecessary and I'm sure will upset a lot of people.
In short,it's 4 episodes of unrelenting gloom and you will probably want to turn to comedy as an antidote,if you last the course.

Slow burner, superbly well acted
intricate and depressing story of family of 4 children arguing over the inheritance of their parents estate. (Sure makes me glad to be an only child!). Nearly all characters are unlikeable and have sinister intentions or back stories. Not sure it was worth the 4 hours. Could've been done in half that.
I only started watching to see Catherine Tyldesley who I'd seen in Coronation Street some years ago when I used to watch it. I was curious to see what she could do with another part and she is terrific in this story about a dysfunctional family who meet up in Wales to scatter their mother's ashes and sort out the farm estate. It is melodrama but exceptionally well acted by the entire cast, even though they are on the whole, unlikeable. In spite of that I found it to be compelling viewing, loved it, unlike other reviewers here.
