Great start to the series. It gives a creepy feeling right from the start. Made me think how would I feel I was in their shoes as the new family moving in to a new town. It made my skin crawl.
Now I'm kind of surprised by how much I thoroughly enjoyed watching this one, but I am happy to be able to say that I did. A really fantastic start of a season that develops the perfect amount of intrigue and suspense that really helps to keep the show entertaining to watch and really makes me want to check out more of it. Plus the performances here are already something to praise, some really great acting from all four of the main family, plus the horrible excellency that comes from our racist neighbors who are terrifying honestly. And it also has a little supernatural vibe to it that I definitely wanna learn more about.
After reading the other reviews on here I must say the producers and writers of this series have really accomplished what they set out to do and that is to stoke division in the USA and wherever else this gets shown.
Of course audiences have been numbed to violence and overt sex on tv , foul language and low brow mediocrity is the norm so what do we give the sheeple to wake them from slumber , well it is controversy and in your face politics - Should really have titled it "Them and Us" with bad old white man doing the "other" man down and in the end god will smite us white evil doers asunder and Us well they will ride to heaven on a winged chariot devoid of blame or consequence...And I actually quite enjoyed some of it I have to say!
You have to give them credit; from the reviews it seems it has worked rather well from the equally skewed reviews ranging from a 1 to a 10 and neither betwixt or between shall be another opinion which illustrates the rabid war that is going on in America right now!
If ever there was a deliberate attempt to incite controversy then this has to be it - Outlandish? Offensive? Daring?
Make your own mind up but it is definitely not a poor 1 out of ten and neither is it a 10 masterpiece - somewhere in the middle, that grey area you just cannot fathom!

I'm not seeing what's so special so far...but I've only watched the first episode. So this review and score is for episode 1 only.
As I say, there's nothing special about this episode.
Thought I was watching 'Us' half of the time.
Hopefully, future episodes get better.

I was expecting something super political and woke, but it's actually not.
The obvious racism is really part of the story and there's not too much about it. It's depicted in an extreme way that makes it ominous and weird.
That's the thing that I really liked in this episode, the ominous and dark tone, with a touch of fantasy/horror.
So far, so good, I just hope it's not gonna end like Lovecraft county, in which the first episodes were great and then it got terribly chaotic and messed up.

- TriviaThe blue jumper that Gracie, the youngest daughter, wears in the first episode strongly resembles the dress that Ruby Bridges wore on her first day of school. Likewise, Gracie's older sister is named Ruby and is ostracized on her own first day at the local school.
- GoofsSeveral of the radios that the women have on the tables in the street are obviously table models that would need to be plugged in to function.
