The Bottom Drawer

Skye Blue falls short of her usual quality level in this early Penthouse Video assignment, a high concept offering plugging the magazine. Title refers to narrator Rachel Lyn finding a drawer full of Penthouse magazines in her dead father's bottom drawer, and while masturbating to the pictures we see the gatefold girls come to life.

High concept is botched, as this slim premise is used to depict romantic sex scenes set in the 1940s and 1950s, eras before Guccione launched his British-based mag. So Skye should have hooked her vignettes to pin-up girls or perhaps earlier girly magazine manifestations, but of course the chance to plug the hand that feeds her and exploit the Penthouse Pets proved irresistible.

So the six sex vignettes, with busty newcomer Lyn getting into action eventually herself, have the gals in vintage lingerie and the guys wearing hats and period outfits. Otherwise, the sex is per usual, rather remote and uninvolving. Superstar Jenna Haze clearly stands out, while other youngish and slender cuties (Riley Shy, Naomi) are easy on the eye.

Title suggested the frequent cause of a mainstream Hollywood clunker: an old script pulled out of the bottom drawer and put into production by default, but this one doesn't even get a screenplay credit.
