I knew nothing about the real person on whom this movie is based, but most of the behavior exhibited by the characters seemed unnatural. The movie failed to move me in any way due to being very unbelievable. The direction is confused and the acting is stiff. Ivan Okhlobystin, who plays the father (and the lead role) is horrible.
Some bright lighs were in the face of young, school age, Aleksander and his teacher.
With all the bad acting and direction they also managed to miss the points this story came to deliver: on one side - do not accept the situation as is and strive to improve your life. On the other - treat all people as normal, even those with disabilities. For an outstanding, warm hearted, inspiring movie on this subject see Front of the Class.

It was difficult for me to watch the first half without crying, many times. But it's a really great movie, with amazing actors and a very interesting story. Based on an amazing real person, that really did go through so much, it's just amazing.
Anyone who thinks this movie is great obviously knows nothing about cerebral palsy. It's permanent. The symptoms differ from one person to another, yet they don't magically disappear over time. No amount of bears or psychological abuse can reverse the damage that's been done to the nervous system. Some (!) symptoms can be alleviated, but for the most part you have to adapt to living with them. The guy they based this movie on? The only similarity between him and his movie double is that they both have cerebral palsy; the story itself, however, is the product of screenwriters and directors.
A very nasty and implausible movie. He is illogical and cruel. At the same time, he justifies this violence and shows it as a way to cure an INCURABLE disease. After all this, can you call it a good movie?
Even if you don't want to believe me, FIND OUT WHAT cerebral palsy IS. Only uneducated people can call it "just a movie is not for everyone, because few people can watch it to the end." Is that what you want to believe? To believe in violence against a sick person, which is UNJUSTIFIED and UNNECESSARY?
There are very few films about disabled people in Russian cinema, now this list has been replenished with another terrible film.

Correctly in one interview someone asked the creator of this pseudo film: "How can you not be ashamed of what you have done?". One of the clearest examples of the shame of Russian cinema.

- TriviaThe movie was originally loosely based on the real-life business coach Arkadiy Tsuker, who in real life had a light form of cerebral palsy, which was not that hard as it was shown in the film and was barely noticed by others. He said that the movie is a work of fiction and has nothing to do with his life. The only truth was that he had problems in school due to his handicap. he advised all people not to take this movie as an example on how to handle this disease. On press conferences the filmmakers reminded people when being asked critical questions that this movie is based on a true story.
- GoofsCerebral palsy cannot be healed in real life, especially not the way it is shown in the movie.
