This is a dry comedy of Youtubers "creativity process".
The acting isn't horrible and the jokes are mild. But its not completely cringeworthy either. The platform I watched this on, had it listed as a horror movie. LET ME BE CLEAR, IT'S NOT! No idea why it would be listed as horror flick. Its mildly entertaining at best.
Being someone who watches a lot of YouTube content and somewhat fascinated by YouTube success stories, I gave this a shot. And enjoyed parts of it.
Is it amazing? No. Is it cringe and over-the-top at times? Yes. But if you manage your expectations and treat it for the low budget attempt it is, some of its jokes and events will make you chuckle to yourself.
Its strongest facet, in my opinion, is its portrayal of the YouTube content creating world. Sure, it's exaggerated. But as the story and character develops (final third of movie), it hits the nail on the head with a certain section of the YouTube content-creating crowd. And I think the purpose of the movie is to expose (or poke fun) at THEM specifically. And for that reason, I commend this movie and its efforts.
Oh, and the acting weren't too bad either. The main lead for the most part (90%) goes for an annoying, selfish Dwight Schrute type character. But the very few subtle moments (10%) he shows a humane, compassionate side to him....is a nice touch.

Realistically it's probably a 6 or so. Some pretty funny moments, other less funny moments. Brian kicks ass in the role, and honestly I think the whole cast did a fantastic job. If you're reading this because you watched the movie, thank you for checking it out! Regardless of whether or not you liked it, we put a lot into it and are grateful that anyone is willing to give us an hour and a half of their time.
Really funny from start to finish. Some hilarious characters especially 'Lazergreg' and his parents. The star of film was funnier than Ricky Gervais in The Office UK, he played the awkward-nerdy-guy-being-followed by a documentary crew 10 times better than Gervais ever did. Stick with it, I promise you it's hilarious. Well done to everyone involved in making it, can't wait to see what else you guys and gals make next. Hope to see some more ethnically diverse actors in your next project though, cheers 👍🏼
Its high time someone said something about the idiocy that we see on social media.
"Unsubscribe" is a clever little film. Its takes the premise of a social media wannabe and does wryly satirical and genuinely funny, things with it.
What helps make this work is it uses relatable well acted characters of the kind you actually find on line. Lost souls and social outcasts, who try to salve their existential rage, by hanging their hopes on becoming shallow, vapid, on line celebrities.
Whats worth adding here is this film managed to achieve with a modest budget what more expensive films, simply fail to deliver on. Intelligence, wit, humour and slyly satirical social commentary without the trite lecturing.
Great stuff.
8/10.
