Jane Powell, who starred as an angelically visaged young actress in a number of MGM musicals including “Royal Wedding” and “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” during the 1940s and 1950s, has died of natural causes. She was 92 years old.

The blonde, blue-eyed Powell usually played characters with a gentle mischievous streak in her musical comedies, but she would shatter the light-hearted atmosphere of her films when she sang: A surprisingly powerful coloratura would emerge from the diminutive (5-feet-1) thesp.

Her producer and mentor was MGM’s Joe Pasternak, who had earlier developed the talents of Deanna Durbin at Universal.

Susan Granger, a friend of the actress and spokesperson for her family, told Deadline that Powell died peacefully at the house she shared for many years with her husband, the actor and publicist Dick Moore, who died in 2015.

The Witcher Season 2 has cast Basil Eidenbenz for the role of Eskel, replacing the previously tapped Thue Ersted Rasmussen.

Swiss actor Eidenbenz will fill the role of Eskel, which was vacated by Rasmussen over rescheduling issues attributed to Covid-19, reports Deadline. Pertinently, Netflix’s The Witcher was among an entire industry-wide slate of productions that halted back in March as Covid escalated to a pandemic level; an occurrence that leaves the series with a lingering issue upon its recent return, since Rasmussen had been filming scenes as Eskel starting in late February before the early-March shutdown. Consequently, the recasting of the character with Eidenbenz calls for reshoots.

“The Witcher” has recast the upcoming role of Eskel with actor Basil Eidenbenz, Variety has confirmed.

In February, Netflix originally announced that actor Thue Ersted Rasmussen would be taking on the role of the fellow Witcher in the Henry Cavill-starring series. However, Rasmussen had to drop out of “The Witcher” due to rescheduling conflicts caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Eidenbenz, a Swiss actor, has previously appeared in the British historical drama “Victoria,” “The Athena” and had a role in “The Favourite” starring Olivia Colman and Emma Stone. He will play Eskel, the longtime friend and colleague of main character Geralt of Rivia (Cavill) portrayed in the “Witcher” novels and popular video game.

Basil Eidenbenz will now play the role originally held by Thue Ersted Rasmussen, who dropped out earlier this week due to Covid-19 rescheduling.

Like star Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, the role of Eskel is a witcher, a.k.a a monster hunter, in Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s “Witcher” novels which the Netflix series is based on. The show follows Geralt as he “finds his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together,” according to Netflix.

Rasmussen was one of the new cast members Netflix announced for Season 2 in February, and had already filmed some scenes as Ersekl in late February and March before production was shut down.

Five early-career writers in regional, rural or remote Australia who are keen to write for television are being offered places in a five-day script lab staged by Screenworks and Matchbox Pictures.

The lab will be held in Lismore from November 12 – 16, led by UK writer Holly Phillips and the script development team from Matchbox Pictures.

The aim is to develop Best Medicine, an original concept for a TV series written by Tim Williams, which revolves around an out-of-work actor who performs as a clown doctor in a teenage cancer ward. His life takes on unexpected new meaning as a result of his time spent with a ward full of complex patients.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate some experience in script writing and live in regional, rural or remote Australia. Travel to Lismore and accommodation expenses will be covered by Screenworks.
