The Boogeyman cast is full of recognizable actors from film and television breathing life into the characters of this chilling Stephen King supernatural horror tale. Based on King's 1973 short story of the same name, first published in the magazine Cavalier and later included in the 1978 collection Night Shift, The Boogeyman revolves around a therapist and his two daughters, who are grieving the loss of the girls’ mother. When one of the therapist’s patients shows up at their house, he leaves behind a malicious paranormal entity that begins preying on the family. The adaptation released in theaters on June 2nd, 2023.
King’s story was adapted into a screenplay by A Quiet Place creators Scott Beck and Bryan Woods and Black Swan co-writer Mark Heyman, and that script was brought to the screen by Dashcam director Rob Savage and Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy. An adaptation of The Boogeyman was in...

Just after a reported first quarter loss of $1.23 billion, Paramount has something to cheer this week. “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” ($19.99), released after its fifth weekend in theaters, is #1 on all VOD charts.
Reading the tea leaves that studios provide to figure out strategies is confusing. Paramount two weeks ago released “Scream VI” ($19.99) on both their own streaming platform and on PVOD. The much bigger-grossing horror film only reached #1 at Vudu, and at the end of its second week, only shows up on one of the three top ten lists.
As always, we are in the dark about the revenues a film ranked at #1 takes in. We do know that at a $19.99 price, Paramount recoups around $14/transaction. It appears they conceded much of that for “Scream VI,” hoping that it boosted the Paramount+ subscription interest. Again, this is mostly a mystery, though it is logical to assume its play...

Just as “F9” couldn’t come soon enough, the same applies for next weekend’s “Black Widow.” Universal leads by default with its unheard-of release of three wide titles over two weeks, but total box office declined from last weekend. As expected, “F9” led in its second frame, followed by “The Boss Baby: Family Business” and “The Forever Purge.” Three movies in the top 10 grossed over $10 million, a first since March last year.
Even with new titles, we’re seeing grosses plateau. The three-day weekend for all titles should total $72 million, down from $98 million last weekend. The same weekend in 2019 grossed $184 million. Another point of comparison: The last time July 4 fell on a Sunday was 2010. That weekend’s total, adjusted for higher ticket prices, was $220 million.
Over the past four weeks, grosses overall are 43 percent compared to the same period in 2019. Last weekend, the comparison was 49 percent. Next week will improve things,...

This week, the Wall Street Journal put into words what we all suspected: After Warner Bros. made its controversial decision to move its 2021 slate to a hybrid release model, “Tenet” filmmaker Christopher Nolan is “unlikely to return to the studio with his next project.” (Neither Warners nor Nolan’s reps responded to requests for comment.)
Warner Bros. announced its HBO Max strategy December 3, and Nolan came forward December 7 to express “disbelief” over the decision. Nolan, who has spent much of the pandemic fighting for the survival of movie theaters (an op-ed in March; a UK petition this week), criticized his longtime studio for sending films to its “fledgling streaming service.” Nolan also slammed the studio for not providing its directors, actors, and other artists with so much as a heads up.

Fall is upon us, and so is Hulu’s list of every title coming and going from the streaming service in November.
Among the list of arriving titles is a new episode of Hulu’s original monthly anthology series, “Into the Dark.” November’s episode is called “Pilgrim,” and claims to be inspired by true events — in which a woman invites a bunch of Pilgrim re-enactors over for Thanksgiving dinner. But things get spooky when the “actors” refuse to break character.
Other new arrivals include Season 5 of “You’re the Worst,” described as a modern look at love, the complete first seasons of “Dollface,” about a young woman re-entering the world of women, “The Accident,” which begins with a deadly explosion at a construction site, and “Love Island: Australia,” an answer to the U.K. and U.S. versions of the beloved reality dating show.

Six-time Emmy winner John Lithgow is set as a lead opposite star Jeff Bridges in FX’s drama pilot The Old Man, from Black Sails co-creators Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine. In another major coup, the pilot has tapped Jon Watts, who directed and co-wrote blockbusters Spider-Man: Homecoming and its sequel Spider-Man: Far From Home, to direct and executive produce. Filming begins this fall.
The Old Man, which is based on the eponymous novel written by Thomas Perry, centers on Dan Chase (Bridges), who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since. When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past.
Lithgow will play Harold Harper. Intelligent and tough with deep reservoirs of compassion and ruthlessness, Harper is called back to service by the FBI after suffering a terrible personal loss.

In The Tomorrow Man, John Lithgow plays Ed, a retiree doomsday prepper who lives alone and spends his days stocking up for the coming end of civilization and posting online to his like-minded followers, when he’s not on the phone arguing with his son, who does not get the whole prepper thing. One day at the grocery store, Ed spots a pretty older woman (Blythe Danner) buying the same kind of things he buys – batteries, canned tuna – and when she pays with cash, he thinks he has found a kindred spirit. Instantly smitten, he contrives a way to meet her.

Specialties were mostly sidelined this weekend, as audiences turned to studio offerings. Some limited release holdovers, however, grabbed some attention from moviegoers looking for alternatives, including Greenwich Entertainment’s second weekend holdover, Echo In The Canyon, which took the best per theater average among the specialties in the three-day with added runs. The doc grossed an estimated $105,678 in 14 locations, averaging $7,548 bringing it cume to over $260K.
Greenwich reported “multiple sold-out shows” for the title’s second frame. The company said it added, “10 mostly mainstream locations” in the Los Angeles metro area with “stronger results in the dedicated arthouses.” Echo In the Canyon also expanded to the Angelika and Landmark 57 West in New York, buoyed by select Q&As and live performances featuring music from the documentary performed by executive producer/musician Jakob Dylan and accompanying band.

Andrew Slater’s music documentary Echo In The Canyon opened with a bang in two Los Angeles theaters over the Memorial holiday weekend, crooning out the second-highest opening weekend per theater average of 2019, solidifying further non-fiction as the star genre among the specialties so far this year.
The Greenwich Entertainment release grossed a three-day estimate of $103,716 from its showings at the ArcLight Hollywood and The Landmark in West L.A., giving the title a $51,858 PTA. The year’s top debut average remains with Avengers: Endgame at $76,601 in over forty-six hundred theaters. It is also the best PTA for a doc this year.
Echo In The Canyon debuted at last year’s final Los Angeles Film Festival where Greenwich first viewed the feature. The film celebrates the explosion of popular music that came out of La’s Laurel Canyon in the mid-’60s as folk went electric and The Byrds, The Beach Boys,...

“The Tomorrow Man” sounds like a 1970s sci-fi film about a guy who predicts the future, but Noble Jones’ feature debut is kind of exactly the opposite, the story a guy whose fixation on the future keeps him from fully experiencing the present.
It’s a mostly thoughtful character study that falters only by failing to scrutinize fully the central character’s toxic, paranoid worldview. Nevertheless, the film makes some astute observations about the coping mechanisms we use to protect ourselves from the world, with Jones eliciting solid performances from John Lithgow and Blythe Danner as two troubled senior citizens embarking on a tenuous courtship.
Lithgow plays Ed, a lonely forced retiree who fills his days preparing for a sociopolitical apocalypse both physically (filling a hidden panic room with canned goods and gasoline) and philosophically, presiding over dark-web chatrooms with ominous declarations. Desperate for real-world interaction after exhausting even his son Brian with endless,...

John Lithgow is set for a lead role opposite Matthew Rhys and Tatiana Maslany in Perry Mason, HBO’s limited series from Team Downey.
Written and executive produced by Rolin Jones and Ron Fitzgerald, who also will showrun, the reimagined Perry Mason is set in 1932 Los Angeles. While the rest of the country recovers from the Great Depression, this city is booming! Oil! Olympic Games! Talking Pictures! Evangelical Fervor! And a child kidnapping gone very, very wrong! Based on characters created by Erle Stanley Gardner, this limited series follows the origins of American fiction’s most legendary criminal defense lawyer, Perry Mason (Rhys). When the case of the decade breaks down his door, Mason’s relentless pursuit of the truth reveals a fractured city and just maybe, a pathway to redemption for himself.

Here’s a trailer for you to enjoy for the new film The Tomorrow Man, starring John Lithgow and Blythe Danner. Lithgow stars as Ed and Danner as Ronnie, two people in a small town who come together with all their baggage in tow. Here’s the synopsis from the IMDb page:
Ed Hemsler spends his life preparing for a disaster that may never come. Ronnie Meisner spends her life shopping for things she may never use. In a small town somewhere in America, these two people will try to find love while trying not to get lost in each other's stuff.
I really enjoyed this trailer. I think it looks lovely. I’m already a big fan of both Danner and Lithgow, and admire each of them as both comedic and dramatic actors.
Watch the trailer below and see The Tomorrow Man in theaters on May 22, 2019.

Bleecker Street has released the first trailer for the upcoming drama The Tomorrow Man. Written and directed by Noble Jones, the film stars John Lithgow as a doomsday prepper who meets and falls in love with a woman (played by Blythe Danner) who’s still grieving over the death of her daughter. The story finds these two lonely souls with opposite outlooks—one obsessed with the future, one fixated on the past—coming together and trying to build a relationship together. This looks like a nice movie. Lithgow and Danner are both reliable talents, and it looks like this film …...

The traditional romantic comedy is far from dead. Even though the days of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan sending each other emails are long gone, thanks to studios like Netflix (and its never-ending supply of rom-coms) and films like “Crazy Rich Asians,” the rom-com is alive and well. And in the case of “The Tomorrow Man,” these films don’t have to star the latest teen heartthrobs to be relevant, either.

"These are interesting times we're living in. All you have to do is learn to connect the dots, and get ready." Bleecker Street Media has debuted the first official trailer for indie dramedy The Tomorrow Man, which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. This heartfelt, awkward romance is about a kooky elderly "doomsday prepper" man named Ed, and a humble "hoarder" woman named Ronnie who he meets and falls in love with. John Lithgow stars, with Blythe Danner, and a cast including Derek Cecil, Katie Aselton, Sophie Thatcher, and Eve Harlow. I caught this at Sundance earlier this year (read the review), and it has an awkward charm to it, that sinks in as it plays out. It's a nice little film - worth a watch. The apocalypse is coming, and there's no better way to prepare for that future than to build an overstocked fallout shelter in your home. Right? That's not crazy, is it? Totally sane. Some people think that this is just being properly prepared. The Tomorrow Man is a dramatic comedy from writer & director Noble Jones that just premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. It's an eccentric, amusing film with a romantic twist that is about an aging man who lives a quiet, lonely life in a small town. Jones' film is kinda-sorta mocking these "doomsday preppers", as they're known - the people who build special shelters and fill it with all kinds of extra food and supplies and survival equipment - because the media (and others from the internet) have made them think something is about to happen and they should be ready for everything to fall apart - soon. Several “red flags” went up for John Lithgow when he first heard about his latest project “The Tomorrow Man.” The film by director Noble Jones was an independent film from a first-time feature film director, who would be shooting it in addition to writing it.
But Jones is an accomplished music video director for Taylor Swift, Keith Urban and Mary J. Blige, and he can also boast having David Fincher as a mentor. And when Lithgow read the screenplay and found out his co-star would be none other than Blythe Danner, he was sold.
“Should I take the chance,” Lithgow told TheWrap’s Steve Pond ahead of its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. “And then I got together with Noble, and there’s something about him, you just trust this is going to be great. And he also comes out of a long history with David Fincher. We found...

One of the most gratifying things about going to Sundance is coming back and seeing people back here and seeing what you do next.”

John Lithgow and Blythe Danner command the screen in everything they do, but “The Tomorrow Man” really pushes those limits. Writer-director Noble Jones’ debut is a cute, confused blend of senior love and apocalyptic dread. There’s an intriguing mystery at the center of this wistful story, as frantic divorcee Ed Hemsler attempts to share his wild conspiracy theories with Ronnie (Danner), the fellow loner he meets at the local grocery store. Set in ambiguous small-town America, “The Tomorrow Man” suggests “Take Shelter” by way of “It’s Complicated,” an unseemly combination that never quite gels. But the actors work overtime to mine substance from the material, and Jones gives them plenty of room to rescue this curious movie from complete oblivion.
But oblivion is Ed’s greatest fear: Spending long hours holed up in his quiet home, he wastes his days posting his paranoid observations in an online forum under the moniker “Captain Reality,...

There’s a sly mood of imminent surprise to music-video director Noble Jones’ narrative feature debut “The Tomorrow Man.” John Lithgow and Blythe Danner play somewhat eccentric older small-town denizens drawn together, though each has a secret life that could be a deal-breaker.
Once we suss what those secrets are, it becomes clear that this is really just a cute autumnal romance cloaked in a little mystery that only goes so deep. If the ultimate effect is a little more slight than one might’ve hoped, Jones and his appealing cast nonetheless sustain a low-key charm even after the enigmatic initial promise burns off like morning fog. Prospects will be modest for Bleecker Street’s pre-Sundance pickup, which is slotted for a May 17 theatrical release.

“That’s a great Netflix movie,” said one premium cable executive of “Brittany Runs a Marathon,” a scruffy New York comedy based on rookie writer-director Paul Downs Colaizzo’s best friend, an overweight 30ish party girl (TV star Jillian Bell), who changes her life by committing to run the New York Marathon. It wasn’t chasing the big numbers at first, but as soon as new chief Jennifer Salke saw it, she rushed back into the fray to nail down the movie for $14 million worldwide. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has picked up all international rights to “The Sound of Silence” in advance of its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, Variety has learned.
The drama stars Peter Sarsgaard, Rashida Jones, Tony Revolori, and Austin Pendleton. It centers on a well-renowned “house tuner” who caters to a New York City-based clientele, calibrating the sound in their homes in order to adjust their moods.
