Last year, HBO's The Gilded Age made a major breakthrough at the Emmys by scoring six nominations, including Best Drama Series, for its second season. The third season is currently airing and won't be eligible until next year's Emmys. However, its presence could still be helpful for star Carrie Coon as she contends for her supporting role in another prestige HBO drama, The White Lotus.

This marks Coon's third Emmy nomination, after Fargo in 2017 and The Gilded Age in 2024. On the third season of Mike White's anthology series, Coon plays Laurie Duffy, a recently divorced corporate lawyer from New York City, who, along with her two longtime friends (Leslie Bibb and Michelle Monaghan), reunite on a girls' trip to Thailand.

Based on the early predictions for Best Drama Supporting Actress, the third time will be the charm for Coon. And having a juicy, highly visible role in The Gilded Age will only help.

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are officially back on set for the sequel to their hit 1998 film, Practical Magic. A new video shows the two filming the upcoming movie.

Nicole Kidman shared a video from the set of Practical Magic 2 on Instagram, writing, "The witches are back. Owens sisters' first day on set!" In the clip, she and Sandra Bullock can be seen hugging and laughing together while cameras roll. "Turns out, we have a lot of work to do," Bullock tells Kidman as the two embrace before they do another take of the scene.

With filming officially commencing, Kidman's clip offers fans their first chance to see her and Bullock reprising their roles as Sally and Gillian Owens. In addition to Bullock and Kidman, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are already confirmed to be returning as Frances and Bridget "Jet" Owens, respectively.

In the video, Kidman is seen embracing Bullock as they stand in front of a headstone at a cemetery. “The witches are back,” the caption reads. “Owens sisters’ first day on set!”

Bullock and Kidman are reprising their roles as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who descend from a long line of witches. In the 1998 original, based on the novel by Alice Hoffman, the two witches find themselves fighting off a curse that kills the men they fall in love with. Plot details for the second film have not been disclosed, though the story is reportedly based on a later installment in Hoffman’s “Practical Magic” book series.

Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing will reprise their roles as eccentric aunts with a deep knowledge of coven living in “Practical Magic 2.” They join Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, the stars of the 1998 romantic fantasy that is getting a sequel from Warner Bros.

Wiest is a two-time Oscar winner who was recognized for her supporting turns in Woody Allen’s “Hannah and Her Sisters” and “Bullets Over Broadway.” Her film credits include “Parenthood” (another Oscar nomination), as well as “The Birdcage,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “The Lost Boys,” and “Little Man Tate.” More recently, Wiest appeared in “The Mule” and “I Care a Lot.”

Channing is an Oscar nominee for her work in “Six Degrees of Separation.” Her other films include “Grease” and “Up Close and Personal.” She also appeared on “The West Wing” and won a Tony for “A Day in the Death of Joe Egg.”

Alison Brie is set for the lead role in an FX drama pilot that hails from Hannah Fidell and Gina Welch.

The official logline states, “A violent confrontation drives a high-end DC madame (Brie) to turn on her partner and enter witness protection in seaside Maine with her adolescent daughter.”

The project was first announced in March 2023 with a pilot commitment. At the time, David Chase was attached as co-creator and executive producer, as the show was based on one of Chase’s previously unproduced scripts of which Fidell had written a contemporary take. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Chase exited the project due to scheduling conflicts with a film he is prepping.

Fidell and Welch serve as writers, executive producers, and co-showrunners. Fidell will also direct. Nicole Lambert of Riverain Pictures remains onboard as an executive producer. FX Productions is the studio.

Ahead of Severance's second season finale on Friday, Gold Derby has broken down the show's Emmy potential in the top races for series and acting.

Apple TV+’s “Cape Fear“ series adaptation has just added another familiar face to its cast. Variety reports that The Conjuring and Insidious franchise stalwart Patrick Wilson has joined the series.

The 10-episode series hails from “Channel Zero“ creator Nick Antosca, who serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

The official logline reads, “A storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden when Max Cady, a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.“ Apple describes their series as “a tense, contemporary thriller that examines America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century. In it, a storm is coming for a pair of married attorneys when an infamous killer from their past gets released after years in prison.”

Apple TV+ has found its third lead for the streamer’s upcoming Cape Fear series.

Patrick Wilson (the Conjuring franchise, FX’s Fargo) is joining Javier Bardem and Amy Adams in the series, an adaptation of the two previous Cape Fear films from 1991 and 1962 (which in turn were based on The Executioners, a 1957 novel by John D. MacDonald). Wilson will play Tom Bowden, an attorney married to fellow lawyer Anna (Adams).

As with the films, the Cape Fear series will follow what unfolds after killer Max Cady (Bardem) is released from prison and seeks out the Bowdens, whom he blames for his sentence. The show will add a 21st century wrinkle by also exploring America’s current true-crime obsession.

Per Variety, Adams will star alongside Bardem in the TV version of the 1991 thriller, which starred Nick Nolte, Robert De Niro, Jessica Lange, and Juliette Lewis. As with Scorsese's film, the new Cape Fear is based on the John D. MacDonald novel The Executioners, published in 1961. The story follows attorney Tom Bowden, who withholds evidence to get violent psychopath Max Cady sent to prison. Both actors will also executive produce alongside Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

The series is based on both John D. MacDonald‘s 1957 novel The Executioners, which was adapted into 1962’s Cape Fear starring Gregory Peck, and Scorsese’s 1991 remake with Robert De Niro.

Antosca previously created “Channel Zero,” “The Act,” “Candy,” and “Brand New Cherry Flavor,” in addition to working on “Hannibal,” “Chucky,” and “Teen Wolf.”

So the directors traded movies – resulting in Scorsese directing Robert De Niro and Juliette Lewis to Oscar nominations for Cape Fear and Spielberg turning Schindler’s List into a Best Picture winner. Urker shared the news that the pair had become parents with a New Year’s Day Instagram post.
