At one point in time, Steven Spielberg was set to direct the thriller Cape Fear, while Martin Scorsese was attached to direct the historical drama Schindler’s List. Then Scorsese decided to step away from Schindler’s List, a choice that coincided with Spielberg deciding that Cape Fear was too violent for him. So the directors traded movies – resulting in Scorsese directing Robert De Niro and Juliette Lewis to Oscar nominations for Cape Fear and Spielberg turning Schindler’s List into a Best Picture winner. Now, Spielberg and Scorsese are teaming up to executive produce a TV series adaptation of Cape Fear, with Nick Antosca on board as executive producer...

Christopher Nolan’s movies usually boast a stacked star cast, with even supporting characters being played by A-listers. The upcoming The Odyssey not only has Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, and more in lead roles, but also has Jon Bernthal, Charlize Theron, John Leguizamo, and more in secondary roles.
The filmmaker has an eye for budding talents as well, as he has chosen actors who would go on to become A-listers for short roles in his movies. Timothée Chalamet played a young Tom Cooper, later played by Casey Affleck, in Interstellar, and Cillian Murphy had a recurring role as Jonathan Crane in The Dark Knight trilogy...

Last year, HBO's The Gilded Age made a major breakthrough at the Emmys by scoring six nominations, including Best Drama Series, for its second season. The third season is currently airing and won't be eligible until next year's Emmys. However, its presence could still be helpful for star Carrie Coon as she contends for her supporting role in another prestige HBO drama, The White Lotus.
This marks Coon's third Emmy nomination, after Fargo in 2017 and The Gilded Age in 2024. On the third season of Mike White's anthology series, Coon plays Laurie Duffy, a recently divorced corporate lawyer from New York City, who, along with her two longtime friends (Leslie Bibb and Michelle Monaghan), reunite on a girls' trip to Thailand.
Based on the early predictions for Best Drama Supporting Actress, the third time will be the charm for Coon. And having a juicy, highly visible role in The Gilded Age will only help.

Nicole Kidman posted a video on her Instagram Friday of herself and Sandra Bullock filming on their first day on the set of “Practical Magic 2.”
In the video, Kidman is seen embracing Bullock as they stand in front of a headstone at a cemetery. “The witches are back,” the caption reads. “Owens sisters’ first day on set!”
Bullock and Kidman are reprising their roles as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who descend from a long line of witches. In the 1998 original, based on the novel by Alice Hoffman, the two witches find themselves fighting off a curse that kills the men they fall in love with. Plot details for the second film have not been disclosed, though the story is reportedly based on a later installment in Hoffman’s “Practical Magic” book series.

The official logline states, “A violent confrontation drives a high-end DC madame (Brie) to turn on her partner and enter witness protection in seaside Maine with her adolescent daughter.”
The project was first announced in March 2023 with a pilot commitment. At the time, David Chase was attached as co-creator and executive producer, as the show was based on one of Chase’s previously unproduced scripts of which Fidell had written a contemporary take. Gypsy-Rose Blanchard is making some surprising claims about the production of Hulu’s The Act six years after its release. “There’s a lot behind The Act that nobody talked about,” Blanchard claimed on the Monday, June 30, episode of Tori Spelling‘s misSPELLING podcast. “Essentially, Hulu and the producers stole my story and made a huge successful show out of it. Didn’t pay me life rights. Didn’t come to talk to me. Didn’t have any conversations to know what was accurate, what was not accurate.” She continued, “To this day, a lot of people are like, they will go off of the events that they’ve seen and the details that they’ve seen on The Act. And they are incorrect because it was filler. It was filled in by producers.” The Act followed the real-life story of Gypsy-Rose, who suffered abuse caused by Munchausen syndrome by proxy from her mother,...

Even as he ages into his 30s, actor Calum Worthy might forever have that youthful air that brings us back to simpler, pre-covid times. Remember the days of Disney Channel's hit series Austin & Ally, in which he co-starred across its four seasons? That cheery perplexity he brought to the YA show was perfect for his next big TV project: Netflix's Peabody Award-winning parody-crime series, American Vandal. Two years later, Worthy would star in another crime-centric show, though much more vain in nature: Hulu's The Act, where he starred alongside the Emmy-nominated Joey King.
And now there's Sew Torn, Worthy's latest starring vehicle where criminals also run amok in a uniquely disjointed narrative. MovieWeb recently caught up with Worthy while he was promoting the new indie film, and the vibrant actor took time to reflect on his past crime-laced series as well — and the unlikely connection between Vandal and The Act.

Joey King’s been quietly rewriting her story since The Kissing Booth happened in 2018, and now, it’s paying off. While the 2019 drama The Act earned her critical respect with an 88% rating, it’s that very performance that’s catching fresh attention in 2025. Word is, Sandra Bullock sees that Emmy-nominated turn as reason enough to bring King into Practical Magic 2.
This feels like a full-circle moment — King moving from guilty-pleasure rom-coms to dark, mystical, witchy territory. And with Bullock reportedly championing her casting, one can say that The Act kind of absolved her past, providing a boost to her career.

Practical Magic 2is conjuring up a spellbinding cast to star alongside Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, who are reprising their roles as witchy sisters Sally and Gillian Owens. The sequel to the 1998 film has found the next actress to enlist into its coven in none other than Joey King. She has fast become one of Hollywood's most sought-after young talents, and now she is gearing up to work her magic on the upcoming Warner Bros. feature, which is expected to draw heavily from the final novel in Alice Hoffman's series, The Book of Magic.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, King will play one of Bullock's daughters, more than likely Kylie, who is a focus of the book. She will apparently discover her family's dark secrets and her own powers, plunging her loved ones into crisis mode. Her involvement is sure to throw some chaos into the mix and,...

Joey King is in negotiations to star alongside Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic 2, Warner Bros.’s Pictures sequel to the 1998 movie.
Susanne Bier, who directed Bullock in the post-apocalyptic thriller Bird Box and Kidman in the sordid Netflix mini-series The Perfect Couple, is on board to helm the feature that has a Sept. 18, 2026 release date.
Bullock and Kidman are reprising their roles as witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who in the original movie fight a family curse that dispatches the men with whom they fall in love. Michelle Pfeiffer at Christmastime? No, it’s not a “Batman Returns” sequel, but it may be just as campy. The beloved actress who recently (finally!) received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is leading Michael Showalter’s holiday feature “Oh. What. Fun.” alongside a slew of It-indie actors.
Pfeiffer plays matriarch Claire Clauster, whose perfectionist tendencies always make for the best Christmases. However, when her kids forget about their own mother over the holidays, she’s forced to reflect on priorities. The official synopsis reads: “Claire is the glue that holds her chaotic, lovable family together every holiday season. From perfectly frosted cookies to meticulously wrapped gifts, no one decks the halls quite like Claire. But this year, as her grown kids and distracted husband get swept up in their own seasonal dramas, they make one crucial mistake: They forget their mom. By the time they realize she’s missing,...

As Alan Ritchson moved up the ranks from working actor to the A-list star of Amazon hit Reacher, manager Dan Spilo was there to guide his meteoric rise.
Spilo helped build a mini empire around the actor, now one of the more in-demand names in Hollywood. He attached himself as a producer on four upcoming Ritchson films, including a Nicholas Sparks adaptation set up at Amazon, as well as Runner, based on a Black List script about a courier on a life-and-death delivery.

No concrete reason has emerged, but Spilo, a partner at Industry Entertainment, has a hard-charging reputation and has rankled numerous colleagues and collaborators over the years. With its macabre one-liners, revolving door of guest stars, and endless imagined homicides, "CSI" is one of the most recognizable network TV franchises of all time. Yet, despite well over a decade of success and extensive rerun appeal, the Anthony Zuiker-created property actually went off the air for a five year period. In 2016, the last "CSI" show that was still going, "CSI: Cyber," bowed out after just two seasons, and the TV world of the crime saga that began at the turn of the millennium went temporarily dark.
Like so many procedurals before it, "CSI" did eventually come back, offering up the Paula Newsome and Matt Lauria-led "CSI: Vegas" in 2021. That series returned to the show's trend of focusing on a different city (past hits have included "CSI: New York" and the infamously punny "CSI: Miami"), but it wasn't enough to save it. Fascinating, oftentimes maddening, and occasionally overdramatic, Good American Familyis thoroughly addictive television. Like its limited-series cousins, The Act, Adolescence, and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, the Hulu series presents a seemingly harmless child—or family—that are not who they appear to be. Or maybe they are. Either way, the tension builds to such a degree that you want to reach inside the screen and shake some of the characters you’re watching.

Like many scripted series drawn from acts of true crime, Hulu’s “Good American Family” opens each episode with a legal disclaimer. Unlike most disclaimers, however, the language evolves over the course of the eight-episode season. The first half of the limited run, we’re told, “includes certain events as alleged by Kristine and Michael Barnett” (Ellen Pompeo and Mark Duplass), the Indiana couple accused of child abandonment in 2019. Then, a new perspective interrupts the Barnetts’: Beginning with Episode 5, the dramatized allegations are instead made by their adopted daughter, Natalia Grace (Imogen Faith Reid), a Ukrainian American girl with dwarfism whose protracted conflict with the Barnetts drives the story. The Barnetts’ saga is already well known, with television personalities like Dr. Phil taking a vested interest in their case and Investigation Discovery producing a multiyear, three-season docuseries titled “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace.” With its bifurcated structure, “Good American Family...

Ahead of Severance's second season finale on Friday, Gold Derby has broken down the show's Emmy potential in the top races for series and acting.
For its first season in 2022, Severance was nominated for 14 Emmys and won two craft awards, for main title design and music composition. The series ended up playing third fiddle to Succession Season 3 and Squid Game Season 1. While Succession is long gone, Squid Game is back this cycle for its second season, though the critical response was somewhat muted.
The four nominated Severance performers the last time around were Adam Scott as Mark Scout in lead actor, Patricia Arquette as Harmony Cobel in supporting actress, and John Turturro as Irving Bailiff and Christopher Walken as Burt Goodman in supporting actor. Severance was also nominated for director Ben Stiller and writer Dan Erickson. Flash-forward three years, and the Apple TV+ sci-fi show about office drones who separate...

The drama surrounding Justin Baldoni's It Ends With Us may be ongoing, but Colleen Hoover fans are looking toward the author's next adaptation, Verity. Set to hit theaters next year, we now have our first look at cast members Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett in the new psychological thriller, and in stark contrast to last year's Blake Lively film, this one is a lot bloodier.
Photos have surfaced online (seen below) showing Johnson on the set of Verity wearing a long peacoat and headphones, and in a few of the images, her face and neck are covered in blood as Hartnett guides her across a busy street. Another image shows her with a vape, while others have her in her own little world as she walks down the sidewalk with her headphones on, tuning out the surrounding noise. Hartnett portrays Jeremy Crawford in the film, while Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh,...

Patrick Wilson is the latest actor to join the upcoming Cape Fear remake. Wilson, whose addition was reported by Variety, joins previously announced cast members Amy Adams and Javier Bardem. Apple TV+'s screen adaptation will mark the third, following the classic J. Lee Thompson film from 1962 and Martin Scorsese's 1991 remake, both of which were based on the 1957 novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald. This version, however, will be the first time the story is explored episodically.
The 10-episode series' official logline reads:
A storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden when Max Cady (Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.
Scorsese famously directed the 1990s remake, which starred Robert De Niro as convicted rapist Max Cady, who seeks revenge against his former public defender, Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte), whom he blames for his 14-year imprisonment. The film also starred Jessica Lange,...

As with the films, the Cape Fear series will follow what unfolds after killer Max Cady (Bardem) is released from prison and seeks out the Bowdens, whom he blames for his sentence. The show will add a 21st century wrinkle by also exploring America’s current true-crime obsession.

Now, Spielberg and Scorsese are teaming up to executive produce a TV series adaptation of Cape Fear, with Nick Antosca on board as executive producer and showrunner – and Deadline reports that Amy Adams (Man of Steel) has signed on to star in and executive produce the series!

Patricia Arquette recently spoke about starring in the late David Lynch's polarizing and surreal 1997 film, Lost Highway, as both Renee Madison and Alice Wakefield. In the interview with IndieWire, she reflected on the dual roles, filming with Lynch (who very recently passed away), and appearing nude.
"That was the hardest movie for me to ever make because I’ve always been very shy," Arquette said. "Especially sexually. I think I probably had a lot of trauma. For many years, I would even take baths in the dark, alone with just a candle."
In the past, she said filming the nude scenes were "terrifying," especially as the crew said "crude" things. She continued:
"For me, making Lost Highway was one of the bravest things I could have done. I was so sick of carrying this burden of terror, this fear. That was a very powerful movie for me to make.

Hulu has enjoyed tremendous success with limited series based on true events, particularly the buzzworthy Candy. 2019's The Act, starring Patricia Arquette and Joey King, which followed the Gypsy Rose Blanchard story, and 2022's The Girl from Plainville, starring Elle Fanning as Michelle Carter, were both major hits for the streaming service. Hulu's 2022 limited series Candy, created by Robin Veith and Nick Antosca, might be their crowning achievement, as not only did it receive high ratings, but it also garnered acclaim from critics and audiences alike.
Candy stars Jessica Biel as Candy Montgomery, a Texas woman who killed her good friend Betty Gore with an axe after Betty confronted her about an affair with her husband, Allan Gore. The limited series explores Candy's life in the years leading up to the murder and the shocking trial that followed. It's a riveting exploration of rage and trauma, featuring a career-defining role from Biel.
