Hong Kong’s Pccw Media is linking up with independent film and TV studio Sk Global Entertainment (“Crazy Rich Asians”) to produce the drama series, “The Season.”

The six-part series is set in Hong Kong and tells of a group of friends gathering for a summer of fun in the sun as boating season begins but which spirals into a web of deception and power struggles. The show was unveiled at a special presentation at Hong Kong FilMart.

“We believe “The Season” is a story that will connect with audiences everywhere through the characters’ personal journeys, relationships and conflicts at times,” said Janice Lee, managing director of Pccw Media Group and CEO of Viu, the company’s multi-territory video streamer.

Pccw Media and Crazy Rich Asians producer Sk Global are joining forces on Hong Kong-set premium series The Season, created and executive produced by Yalun Tu.

The English-language series features an ensemble cast of international talent including Jessie Mei Li (Shadow And Bone), award-winning Hong Kong actress Karena Lam, Justin Chien (The Brothers Sun), Yvonne Chapman (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Celina Jade (Wolf Warrior 2) and Toby Stephens (Percy Jackson And The Olympians).

Chilean director Marialy Rivas (The Jetty) serves as the show’s lead director and executive producer. Agatha Lo will executive produce for Pccw Media and Chloe Dan, Matt Aragachi and Dylan Tarason for Sk Global, with Aaron Shershow (Expats) as producer. Production is expected to start in Hong Kong soon.

Yalun Tu is known for writing and producing credits on NCIS: Hawaii and Wu Assassins, as well as My Undead Yokai Girlfriend for Prime Video Japan.

Warner Bros. has shared thirteen new character posters from Ryan Coogler's Sinners, offering a fresh new look at the devlish heroes and villains set to feature in the upcoming horror thriller.

While not much is yet known about the plot, save for the fact that Michael B. Jordan will be forced to square off with vampires, including his recently turned twin brother, which should only up the ante as he and a small group of survivors attempt to make it to daybreak.

When asked about his latest film, Coogler teased, “Sinners is a unique one. It’s genre fluid. There are vampires in the film, but it’s really about a lot more than just that. It’s one of many elements, I’ll say. I think we’re going to surprise people with it.”

Indonesian star Iko Uwais, beloved by international action aficionados for his brutal and balletic work in Gareth Evans’ The Raid: Redemption and later performances in the Expendables and Skyline franchises, is stepping behind the camera as a producer and director. In late January, the action hero unveiled his new namesake Jakarta-based production banner, Uwais Pictures. Gersh is shopping the startup outfit’s first pair of action vehicles, both fully shot and nearly finished, to international buyers at Berlin’s European Film Market this week.

Exclusive: International action star Iko Uwais, known for The Raid, Expendables and Skyline franchises, is officially launching his production label Uwais Pictures with two new films on sale at next month’s EFM in Berlin.

The action-focused production company he runs with his team of collaborators is expanding its remit to the global market. The aim is to replicate the success of modestly budgeted, local-language hits such as The Raid, The Raid: Redemption, and The Night Comes for Us.

First up on the slate are two completed action films: Timur, which is inspired by the 1996 Mapenduma hostage crisis, and Ikatan Darah. Both will be screened at the EFM by Uwais Pictures in collaboration with Gersh.

Indonesia-based action outfit Uwais Pictures specializes in incorporating fight choreography, action design, and stunt performance from the inception of its projects. Uwais and his team of collaborators have worked together for a number of years.

The 1970s brought an increased interest in martial arts stories following the "kung fu wave" of Hong Kong cinema. Martial artists and actors like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan were major influences, introducing Chinese martial arts to Western audiences.

Their influence can still be seen in the past decade's best martial arts shows, like Warrior and Into the Badlands. What makes the best martial arts shows stand out is the ability of their action scenes to complement the narrative. This can be seen in TV shows where the characters are training in martial arts, such as Cobra Kai or Wu Assassins. Other shows, like Daredevil, use martial arts as a means to elevate the fight scenes.

As Prime Video's Spider-Man Noir (now officially titled Spider-Noir) continues to round out its cast, the latest actor to join the live-action series is Wu Assassins star Li Jun Li.

Deadline reports that Li will play "a singer at the premier nightclub in New York," but a recent plot synopsis revealed that Nicolas Cage's Depression-era wall-crawler will be facing a "femme fatal" take on Yuriko Watanabe, and Daniel Richtman believes this is indeed who she's been cast as.

The scooper also reports that Tom Burke and Abraham Popoola are in talks for unknown parts.

Li joins previously announced Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, and Brendan Gleeson in an undisclosed role (there's a chance he'll play Silvermane). The Sandman is also expected to appear, but no word on who has been cast in the role.

Li has also appeared in the likes of Sex/Life, Babylon, Billy and Billie, and the short-lived Exorcist TV series.

An Atlanta-based casting agency has parted ways with Paramount+’s Tulsa King following allegations that series star/executive producer Sylvester Stallone and an unnamed director denigrated background talent.

“We have chosen to part ways with Tulsa King,” Catrett Locke Casting shared on its Facebook page Sunday. “We will be finishing up next week and [April] 12th will be our last day. Exclusive: Hong Kong-American actor Byron Mann (Wu Assassins) has joined the cast of Korean studio Showbox’s Moral Hazard (working title), alongside previously announced Korean stars Yoo Hai-jin (The Night Owl) and Lee Je-hoon (Taxi Driver 2).

Currently in production in Seoul, the film tells the story of Korea’s top Soju manufacturer and its attempts to stave off bankruptcy. While Yoo stars as the CFO of the distillery and Lee as a global investor, Mann plays a Chinese-American investment banker who is also working on the acquisition of the company.

The feature is directed by Choi Yoon-jin, who previously scripted the Korean films Steel Cold Winter (2013) and Office(2015).

In addition to his role in Netflix series Wu Assassins, Mann is known for The Man With The Iron Fists (2012), The Big Short (2015) and Netflix series The Recruit (2022).

The Wrap reminds, “Johnny Cage was introduced in the first Mortal Kombat arcade game in 1992. Johnny Cage is depicted as an action movie star with an extensive martial arts background. John Wirth has signed on as showrunner and executive producer of “Dark Winds” Season 2 at AMC.

Wirth takes over the role from Vince Calandra, who was the showrunner of the first season of the series. The show was renewed for a second season in June shortly after it debuted.

This marks Wirth’s return to AMC Networks, as he was previously the showrunner on the AMC series “Hell on Wheels” for four seasons and an executive producer on the Sundance TV series “Hap and Leonard.” His other credits include “Wu Assassins,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” “Nash Bridges,” and “Picket Fences.”

Production is under way on “Asian Persuasion,” a feature film that marks the directorial debut of three-time Tony-Award and Grammy-winning producer Jhett Tolentino.

Set in New York, romantic comedy “Asian Persuasion” features a diverse, primarily Asian cast and seeks to elevate, inform and inspire the Asian narrative.

The story follows a down-on-his-luck chef who cooks up a crazy scheme to marry off his ex-wife in an attempt to avoid his substantial alimony obligations. With the help of his trusted wingman, the chef gets off to a hot start, but belatedly realizes he wants a second chance with his ex.

Asian Persuasion is produced under the Jhett Tolentino Productions banner with Tolentino and screenwriter Mike Ang serving as producers. Cinematography is by Andrea Walter with production and costume design by Dedalus Moving Pictures’ Sheena Alexis (“Caretakers”). The music score is by Eunike Tanzil (“Be Somebody”) with casting by Bess Fifer.

Exclusive: TV executive Chris Regina left Netflix last week, I have learned. He spent the past several years at the streamer, most recently as Director, Original Series, Drama Development.

In that capacity and in his previous role as Director, Scripted Co-License and Original TV, Regina oversaw original sci-fi, genre and thriller series like Another Life, Wu Assassins, The Order, October Faction, Black Summer, Warrior Nun and In From the Cold.

Regina joined Netflix after two decades at Syfy, where he was one of the masterminds behind the channel’s acquisition/co-production strategy and the architect of the Sharknado franchise.

Lawrence Kao of Netflix’s “Wu Assassins” and Greg Hovanessian of “Another Life” have been cast as series regulars in CBS Studios’ CW pilot for “Walker: Independence,” TheWrap has confirmed.

The origin story, set in the late 1800s, follows Abby Walker, an affluent Bostonian looking for vengeance after her husband Liam is murdered in front of her on their journey West. Abby crosses paths with “lovable rogue” Hoyt Rawlins (Matt Barr) on her way to Independence, Texas, where Liam was set to be the new sheriff.

Kao will play Kai, who runs the local laundry. The former railroad worker offers Abby her first meal and advice about the town.

Hovanessian has been cast as the dastardly Tom Davidson, the new sheriff of Independence.

Kao had a recurring role on The CW’s “The Originals,” as well as guest/recurring roles on “The Walking Dead,” “Leverage Redemption,” “The Purge,” “Law & Order: Svu” and “Sleepy Hollow.

When Tommy (Lawrence Kao) quips this line in a Fistful of Vengeance, it’s almost meta. Fistful of Vengeance is the feature film sequel to Netflix’s 2019 10-episode martial arts driven series Wu Assassins. It is produced in the same spirit as Fox’s Firefly and Serenity or Netflix’s own Sense8 by the Wachowskis (which also had a lot of martial arts.)

Beyond Tommy, two other Wu Assassins leads reappear in Fistful of Vengeance. After its first, and so far only, season Netflix announced that Wu Assassins would be getting a sequel in the form of a stand-alone movie. And now just about a year from that announcement, Fistful of Vengeance has arrived. Reuniting the show’s three leads Kai, Lu Xin and Tommy.

Fistful of Vengeance opens with a fight against a supernatural creature in a Bangkok nightclub. At some point between the end of the series and now someone, or more accurately something, killed Tommy’s sister Jenny and the trail has led them here and to Ku An Qi a powerful entity that has used her powers to seize control of the city’s underworld.

Exclusive: Reem Kherici is directing and starring in Chien et Chat (Cat and Dog), a live-action animated hybrid film currently in production in Montreal, which she also wrote.

Cat and Dog follows the owner of an Internet-famous cat and an international jewel thief whose dog has swallowed a ruby as the animals escape their cages in the airport. Together, the unlikely duo must work together to recover their prized pets.

Gaumont’s Sidonie Dumas is producing with Eric Altmayer for Mandarin Productions. Netflix has taken Latin American rights to the film, with Gaumont looking to release it in French theaters in December of 2023.

Kherici is best known for the 2017 romantic drama Jour J (Wedding Unplanned), which also had her writing, directing and starring. She first established herself as a multi-hyphenate with the 2013 debut feature Paris à tout prix, which was distributed in over 50 countries.

Kherici is represented by Zero Gravity Management and A3 Artists Agency.

The film tells of a charming guy, portrayed by Mann who attempts to pick up a woman in a bar by spinning a tale involving spies, implanted microchips and the dangerous military scientist hunting him. But who is to say that the tale is not true? Or that the unimpressed woman is not actually the hunter?
