The Other Bennet Sister, the BBC and BritBox’s Jane Austen universe series, has added Ruth Jones, Richard E. Grant, and Indira Varma in major roles.
Jones (Gavin & Stacey) and Grant (Withnail & I) will co-star as Mr and Mrs Bennet in the adaptation of Janice Hadlow’s novel, which tells the story of Mary Bennet — the seemingly unremarkable and overlooked middle sister in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
Housed at Doctor Who and Industry producer Bad Wolf, Game of Thrones star Varma and Richard Coyle (Heads of State) are set as Mr and Mrs Gardiner, Mary’s worldly aunt and uncle. Ella Bruccoleri (Bridgerton) leads the 10-part series as Mary Bennet. Filming is underway in Wales.
The Gardiners take Mary under their wing as governess to their three children, Marianne (Roisin Bhalla), George (Reggie Absolom), and Rebecca (Jasmine Sharp), introducing her to a new social world that includes Mr Hayward,...

If three Law & Order series aren't enough for you, The CW has great news. Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent is crossing the border and making it's way on to the network's fall schedule. Varietyreports that the CW has acquired the first and second seasons of the Canadian TV series, and they will premiere for the first time on American TV in the fall. With both seasons spanning ten episodes, that gives American Law & Order fans twenty more episodes of crime-solving to enjoy.
The series will join the flagship Law & Order and its long-lived spin-off Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which will both return with new seasons in the fall, although with serious creative changes for the latter. In addition, Peacock has the Christopher Meloni-led Svu spin-off Law & Order: Organized Crime; its fifth season is currently in progress. The Canadian spin-off, the first Law & Order...

Apple TV+ is working on releasing a new sci-fi action comedy; the new original from Apple – Murderbot, which has been turning heads since its trailer was released, is about a security robot that is owned by a company that gives out robots to be used as tools for space missions.
Since it’s an Apple TV+ show, they are not going to make just another series that blurs the line between humans and machines. That has been done plenty of times; they are known to go all in with creators, writing, and most importantly, the casting. If Apple’s track record shows anything, it’s that they almost always nail these aspects.
Be it Shrinking, Ted Lasso, or The Studio, you can always see yourself pointing at the screen, excited to see an actor you adore doing some silly roles. The same is seen with the casting of Murderbot, from Alexander Skarsgård,...

British actor Jamie Thomas King is adapting James Titcombe’s memoir Joshua’s Story: Uncovering the Morecambe Bay Maternity Scandal for the big screen.
King, best known for star turns in Mad Men and The Tudors, is penning a screenplay for Trust, a movie to be produced along with wife and Canadian actress Tamara Podemski as part of their newly-launched Blackbird Productions banner.
“Right now, I do not have intention to act in or direct the project. But yes, I became interested in the subject following Benjamin’s death and subsequent lawsuit,” King told The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday.
In 2016, the preventable death of their second son, Benjamin, due to medical negligence occurred five days after Podemski gave birth after a delayed caesarean section. Martin said: “Howard saw a rough cut of [“The Ugly Chickens”] before he died. He liked it, which pleases me no end. I only wish we had been able to screen the final cut for him.”
Jennifer Dale (“Coroner”), Natalie Charles (“Suits”) and Mag Ruffman (“Alias Grace”) also star in the short, which was shot on location in Toronto,
“Upon learning that the supposedly extinct dodo bird might still exist, ornithology professor Paula Linberl sets out on a cross-country expedition to unravel the mystery,” reads the synopsis.

The Canadian Screen Awards has unveiled nominations for the national film and TV prize-giving, and the CBC civil rights drama The Porter leads the film and TV field with 19 mentions in all, including for best small-screen drama.
The first Canadian drama series from an all-Black creative team, which also streams on BET+, centers on the lives of Black train porters and their families as they launch North America’s first Black labor union in the 1920s.
The TV categories, voted on by around 3,000 Canadian industry insiders, also sees the CBC series Detention Adventure and Sort Of – a Peabody award-winning show about a gender fluid young Muslim in Toronto played by Bilal Baig — nab 15 nominations each in an awards show shaping up to be a major showcase for people of color.
That follows Canadian film, and TV industry efforts to ensure diversity and inclusivity in the country’s indie production sector and prize-giving process.

The CW's continued scheduling shakeups will now include a live golf broadcast. The network, which is best known for being the home to series like Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, and Riverdale, was put up for sale by its parent companies in early 2022 before being taken over by the Texas-based media company Nexstar, who were granted controlling shares of the company. During this sale process, a vast swath of then-running CW series were given the axe, including Legacies, Dynasty, and Charmed, as well as most of the remaining series in the DC-based Arrowverse (which originated with the 2012 Stephen Amell show Arrow), namely Naomi, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman.
Per TVLine, Nexstar's first move in establishing their new slate of programming is to strike a deal with Liv Golf. This multi-year partnership will begin in 2023 as The CW will air games from various Liv Golf League tournaments live. This will take place on various weekends,...

The future of The CW is beginning to take shape.
The broadcast network has renewed its drama All American for a sixth season in 2023-24. The pickup is the first since local TV giant Nexstar acquired a 75 percent stake in The CW and hired former Pop TV head Brad Schwartz as entertainment president.
All American has consistently turned in some of the better ratings for the network: This season, it’s the top show on The CW among adults 18-49 in Nielsen’s seven-day ratings and ranks fourth in total viewers. The network also says it had the largest cross-platform audience on The CW in the 2021-22 season.
“Over the last five seasons, All American has established itself as one of the all-time CW flagship franchises,” Schwartz said in a statement. “All American is not only the network’s youngest series, but also the strongest performer when combining all our platforms.

The CW's end-of-year ratings may end up proving what shows will survive into the coming season. The network is currently undergoing a major scheduling shakeup after being put up for sale in early 2022 and having the bulk of their shares taken over by the media company Nexstar. In addition to a rash of cancelations earlier this year and the announcement that the next seasons of several popular series, including Riverdale and The Flash, would be their last, the company revealed that only the highest-performing shows this season have a chance of carrying over into their 2023-2024 slate.
Per TVLine, the midseason ratings for The CW's 2022-2023 season are looking good for some series and dire for others. As far as scripted programming goes, the football show All American and its spinoff All American: Homecoming took the No. 1 and No. 4 positions, with the former series experiencing a huge 20 percent audience boost on DVR,...

Friday the 13th remains one of the most iconic franchises in the slasher movie genre, and the best part about watching these movies is seeing the kills. There might not be anyone like Jason Voorhees when it comes to creative kills, as each movie tried to one-up the ones that came before in both the setup to the slayings and the method in which the victims died.
Over the movie's long-running franchise, which included a reboot in 2009, Jason killed well over 100 victims. The only movies without Jason were the first, where his mother was a killer, and the fifth, with an imposter. However, in the other movies, Jason had some of the best kills of any slasher villain, the best taking a creative step in adding panache to the kill.

East New York and NCIS: Los Angeles benefited from airing earlier than usual.
With The Equalizer in encore mode, East New York Season 1 Episode 5 soared to 5.7 million total viewers and a 0.5 rating.
The total viewer tally marks a series high for the freshman drama.
NCIS: Los Angeles followed with 4.9 million viewers and a 0.4 rating, also perking up to a season-high in viewership.
Over on ABC, Celebrity Jeopardy (3 million/0.3 rating), Celebrity Wheel of Fortune (3.1 million/0.3 rating), and The Rookie (3.4 million/0.3 rating) all lost some steam in the demo.
The CW's low-rated combo of Family Law and Coroner all came down to their lowest viewership tallies to date.
Given the network's change in strategy, it will be interesting to see whether either of these shows will return next season.
They are imports that come in at a cheaper cost, so they could return.
