Widdershins

A futuristic reality in the clothes of Victorian life style. And Brian Cox. A seductive romantic story, full of ingeniosity and humor and touchig adventure.

According to my know-it-all daughter, 'Widdershins' is the Scottish word for 'counter-clockwise' and it is fitting for this film.

The look of the film is best described as "The Jetson" combined with steampunk combined with drawings much like those of Edward Gorey. I loved the look and think this is the main reason to see this film.

The story begins in a Jetsons-like world where everything also looks Victorian. A man (voiced by Brian Cox) is dissatisfied by his seemingly perfect life. While his every need is attended to by various robots, he longs for something different. That different appears in the form of a Luddite...a woman who hates technology.

The story is fine. The animation is extraordinary and I can see why the film did so well on the film festival circuit. Well worth seeing and fun.
