April is going to be a good month for G.I. Joe fans, with films from the action-packed series finding a new streaming home. The two films that launched the franchise will stream for free on Tubi.

Beginning April 1, Tubi has both G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.The Rise of Cobra was the first film released, kicking things off in 2009 with a cast that included Channing Tatum, Dennis Quaid, Lost's Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston, and Inception's Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The movie featured an ensemble cast based on the toy line's characters, with its story following the team trying to stop the rise of an evil organization known as Cobra, led by Destro (Eccleston) and the mysterious Cobra Commander (Gordon-Levitt). The Rise of Cobra hit theaters to negative reviews from critics, but fans of the franchise showed up at the box office.

He didn't have a lead role in Gone in 60 Seconds, but Timothy Olyphant was front and center for a good portion of the movie. The action heist movie from 2000 was a loose remake of the 1974 flick of the same name and starred Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie, Giovanni Ribisi, Robert Duvall, and a diverse ensemble cast.

Cage played Randal "Memphis" Raines, a reformed car thief who gets pulled back an auto-theft ring to save his brother, Kip (Ribisi), after he was kidnapped. As Memphis returns to boosting cars, the appearances of his former love interest, Sara "Sway" Wayland (Jolie), Sphinx (Vinnie Jones), and Otto Halliwell(Duvall) as well as the Detectives Castlebeck and Drycoff (Delroy Lindo and Olyphant) both complicate and help him in his efforts.

As one of the fathers of the thriller genre, Alfred Hitchcock mastered the art of suspense cinema through classics like Vertigo, Psycho and Rear Window. Nobody can put a thriller together quite like Brian De Palma. The level of craft combined with De Palma's drive to constantly push, in a typically violent or perverse fashion, Hitchcockiannarratives to their extremes results in an experience unlike any other. Though he's made many classics, De Palma has a deep bench of underrated movies, and Snake Eyes, starring Nicolas Cage, should be at the top of that list.

Indonesian star Iko Uwais, beloved by international action aficionados for his brutal and balletic work in Gareth Evans’ The Raid: Redemption and later performances in the Expendables and Skyline franchises, is stepping behind the camera as a producer and director. In late January, the action hero unveiled his new namesake Jakarta-based production banner, Uwais Pictures. Gersh is shopping the startup outfit’s first pair of action vehicles, both fully shot and nearly finished, to international buyers at Berlin’s European Film Market this week.

Since exploding onto the scene in the early 2010s with his fully formed silat martial arts mastery, Uwais has gone on to appear in productions across the world, including Snake Eyes, Stuber, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the Netflix series Wu Assassins, for which he also served as lead fight choreographer and executive producer.

Soon after revealing its long-awaited release date, Netflix fed The Old Guard 2 fans another exciting piece of news in the form of a behind-the-scenes montage. The sequel completed production in late 2022, and after several unforeseen setbacks, the film will finally arrive on the streamer on Jul. 2, 2025. The Raid: Redemption star Iko Uwais is making action movie fans’ dreams come true today, with the genre icon and skilled martial artist not only launching his own production label, but lining up not one, but two new action movies. Best known for the blisteringly brilliant action movies The Raid and The Raid 2, as well as The Night Comes for Us, Snake Eyes, Expend4bles, and more, Iko Uwais will make his directorial debut with the action thriller Timur, in which he will also star.

As per a report by Deadline, Uwais will officially launch his production company, Uwais Pictures, “at next month’s EFM in Berlin.” The actor’s aim is to “replicate the success of modestly budgeted, local-language hits such as The Raid, The Raid: Redemption, and The Night Comes for Us,” with the company striving to incorporate “fight choreography, action design, and stunt performance from the inception of its projects.

Exclusive: International action star Iko Uwais, known for The Raid, Expendables and Skyline franchises, is officially launching his production label Uwais Pictures with two new films on sale at next month’s EFM in Berlin.

The action-focused production company he runs with his team of collaborators is expanding its remit to the global market. The aim is to replicate the success of modestly budgeted, local-language hits such as The Raid, The Raid: Redemption, and The Night Comes for Us.

First up on the slate are two completed action films: Timur, which is inspired by the 1996 Mapenduma hostage crisis, and Ikatan Darah. Both will be screened at the EFM by Uwais Pictures in collaboration with Gersh.

Indonesia-based action outfit Uwais Pictures specializes in incorporating fight choreography, action design, and stunt performance from the inception of its projects. Uwais and his team of collaborators have worked together for a number of years.

Even though 2023’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts turned out to be the biggest box office disappointment in the franchise, the single post-credit scene at the end of the movie teased that the iconic robots in disguise could see a crossover with another Hasbro property, G.I. Joe. Not only is there the possibility of actors from previous G.I. Joe movies reprising their roles, but in an interview with Collider, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura even said, "Transformers will have more emotions and agency than ever before!"

Even with all these reports coming in about this upcoming live-action crossover in the series, fans of both properties are eager to point out that events such as this have happened plenty of times in the Transformers comic continuity. Mark Wahlberg’s panned action thriller from 2018 is currently finding new life on streaming. Mile 22, which sees Wahlberg reunite with Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, and Patriots Day director Peter Berg, has now found its way into the top 10 on Starz, with audiences turning to this no-nonsense tale of Marky Mark and his leadership of an elite, top secret CIA unit.

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Iko Uwais, John Malkovich, Lauren Cohan, and Ronda Rousey, Mile 22 was met with largely negative reviews upon release. The action outing stands at just 23% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences slightly more enamored and scoring the movie 44% on the Popcornmeter. “Mile 22 lets the bullets fly -- and not much else -- in a thrill-deficient action thriller whose title proves sadly fitting for a film that feels close to a marathon endurance test,” the critics’ consensus reads. Over the years, though, thanks to home video and streaming, the movie has finally found the audience that eluded it in theaters. Part of that could certainly be chalked up to a recent resurgence in star Nicolas Cage’s career. In 1999 “The Sixth Sense,” a spooky-ooky movie involving ghosts and a freaky little kid who sees them, opened theatrically and quickly became a cultural sensation and a box office juggernaut. It would end up earning $672 million at the global box office and garnering six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Its signature line of dialogue (“I see dead people”) would enter the lexicon, endlessly quoted, parodied and spoofed.

But there was another, very similar, equally wonderful movie that opened in 1999 that didn’t get nearly the attention that it deserved – or, indeed, the attention that was bestowed upon “The Sixth Sense.”

The comic book industry is renowned for blatantly copying its competitors. Marvel's Deadpool was a spoof-slash-rip-off of DC's Deathstroke and G.I. Joe's Snake Eyes. And now, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 star Ben Schwartz is eyeing up a character in the new Dcu, and no doubt many would assume it's a rip-off of a rip-off. Schwartz currently stars in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, alongside Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey, and James Marsden. Schwartz has voiced the character since the first movie in 2020 and, with the third film under his belt, Schwartz is now looking ahead and wants to bring his signature fast-paced humor to one of DC's funniest characters... Streaming charts always look a little different at the start of each month with arrivals and departures causing chaos in the top 10, but this week’s most popular show on Netflix is poised to hang on to the top spot for a while. Black Doves, the spy thriller series starring Keira Knightley alongside Paddington veteran Ben Whishaw, recently premiered on the streamer and jumped to the # 1 spot, dethroning The Madness, the latest show from Academy Award-nominee Colman Domingo. Black Doves follows Helen (Knightley), who embarks on a passionate affair with a man who has no idea who she is. The show earned a nearly perfect score of 98% from critics and a 70% rating from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, and also stars Warrior and Snake Eyes veteran Andrew Koji.

The Netflix drama based on Michael Connelly’s novels recorded 1.64 billion viewing minutes for the week of Oct. 14-20 (season three premiered Oct. 17), according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings. That’s the third best weekly tally in the show’s history, behind season one’s second week in May 2022 and the debut of the back half of season two in August 2023.

The Lincoln Lawyer pushed the previous week’s No. 1 show, Love Is Blind, down one spot to second overall. The Netflix dating show had 1.21 billion minutes of viewing for the week. Chu has admitted a second ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ probably won’t happen.The 45-year-old director helmed the rom-com - which is an adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s satirical 2013 novel of the same name - in 2018, and although there is much clamour for a follow-up, Chu insists it is unlikely because he is yet to find “a script that’s better and has as much urgency as the first movie”.In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Chu said: “There are a lot of questions about ‘Crazy Rich Asians 2’ . I always promised the cast, I will not bring them back unless we get a script that’s better and has as much urgency as the first movie. And I think we just haven’t gotten there yet.“The first movie, even though people think, ‘It’s like the book, so the second book should fit in’, it’s actually not.

Jon M. Chu has made a name for himself with acclaimed films like Crazy Rich Asians and In the Heights and now is at the helm of one of 2024's most anticipated movies, Wicked. Yet before all that, he began his directing career with movies like Step Up 2: The Streets, Jem and the Holograms, and notably G.I. Joe: Retaliation. The G.I. Comic Book asked Chu if he would be open to directing another G.I Joe film. Chu noted that he is currently busy with Wicked and its follow-up, Wicked - Part Two, which opens in theaters in November 2025, so his schedule is locked down for now.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation director John M. Chu addresses his potential return to the franchise. Released in 2013, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is, like its 2009 predecessor, based on the beloved Hasbro toy line. The sequel, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, and Channing Tatum, sees the Joes facing off against Cobra once again, this time while also dealing with threats within the government. Retaliation was ultimately followed by the poorly-reviewed Snake Eyes in 2021, and the franchise has been dormant ever since.

Chu is currently on the press circuit promoting Wicked, but ComicBook.com asked the filmmaker if there is a return to the G.I. Joe franchise in his future. While the director isn't ruling anything out, he stresses that he'll be quite busy in the next few years, with Wicked Part Two (due out in November 2025) marking his next project. The big news in home movie viewing this week isn’t that new-to-pvod “The Wild Robot” (Universal) and “Alien: Romulus” (Disney) split the #1 positions on the iTunes and Fandango top 10 charts.

The significant development is that both, like “Deadpool & Wolverine” (Disney), rent for 48 hours at $24.99, not the standard $19.99. That’s a 25 percent increase for PVOD, an increasingly essential source of studio revenue.

A few big hits have tested the $24.99 rental, including “Dune 2” and “Inside Out 2,” but “Robot” and “Alien” are successes of just over $100 million, not blockbusters.. Studios get 80 percent of the cost after a small carrier fee; the $5 increase represents about $4 more for each rental.

DreamWorks Animation’s “Robot” arrives after its third weekend in theaters. That’s not unusual for Universal, although in recent months they sometimes held back another week or two for bigger titles.

Marketing for the home showings may boost theater attendance.

Snake Eyes has become a viewership success on Netflix after disappointing in theaters. Released in 2021, the G.I. Joe prequel film is directed by Robert Schwentke, with Henry Golding starring as Snake Eyes, the mysterious ninja warrior. The movie, which serves as an origin story for the titular character as he joins a Japanese clan called the Arashikage, earned generally poor reviews and was a box office flop, grossing only $40 million worldwide on an estimated budget of $88 million.

New data from Netflix now reveals that Snake Eyes ranks as the fourth most popular movie on the streaming service as of October 18. The G.I. Joe movie beats titles like Pixels (2015) and Lonely Planet (2024), but falls behind other movies like Sing (2016), Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024), and, in the number one spot, Unhinged (2020). Joe producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura weighed in on the state of a crossover between the two franchises, which was teased at the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Recognizing that when it comes to crossovers, "people think different things about what that means," di Bonaventura described this story as one where "the Joes are going to be in the Transformers world and be present.
