    Good Enough

We Hope for A Blooming is not the best shoujo movie out there. Still, it was cute.

I liked how they didn't focus on the romance too much, but on the character development of the main character, the friendship of the boys and the girl and the basketball games. However, it would have been better if they had explored her realtionship with her old best friend more in depth, as it felt superficial and it didn't help develop the strong emotions that the story required.

The couple, also, had chemistry and they looked cute together. However, the love triangle was weak. Finally the performances were good.

    So, six out of ten.

Not really enjoyable, maybe a waste of time

I didn't get the connection that those boys have with the girl. The way she became close to them was so sudden. I didn't quite get how supposedly 4 popular boys suddenly liked hanging out with this boring, timid girl. She is not an impressive girl at all. Sure she was slightly outspoken to them about what she felt about their obliviousness towards other girls but still it wasn't enough to suddenly include her in their supposedly very close relationship, best friends forever , we have played basketball since elementary school relationship.

I did enjoy watching Takumi Kitamura. I watch his other romance movies and he's very good at expressing his feelings through his eyes. He always gets the girl of course.

    Okay high school romance

The message about overcoming low self esteem and mustering the courage to approach others and make friends is well meant and positive but they way it's presented here, it comes across pretty sappy and childish at times, especially the beginning. But the movie is also a bit humorous, which kind of balances it out a little. Also there are a few likeable and funny characters and the basketball theme provides some action so it doesn't get too boring, although the love triangle is a little bit weak. It's not a masterpiece, but it's nice and wholesome.
