Maybe I am whack but I think this show is heartwarming and crudely enjoyable! I have been a fan of Kathryn Hahn awhile so I don't mind her character in this. Also I really like the soundtrack although I do understand the hate, I won't be one of them.
First of all, Kathryn is so talented, her acting is so natural and sophisticated. Love her.
The story is interesting, even though I haven't read the novel yet, but so far I love this female self-exploration journey, trying to figure out what she truly feels and wants.
Based on the merits of its premiere episode, I'm cautiously predicting "Mrs. Fletcher" to be a potential winner.
The critics who've viewed the entire limited HBO series (based on the eponymous novel by Tom Perrotta) seem to be giving it restrained praise, so we'll see.
My brief take is thus:
It has a tight half-hour format, fresh premise (dual stories of a sexually curious, middle-aged empty-nester mom and boorish, un-woke college freshman son simultaneously "coming of age"), realistic dialogue and nicely drawn secondary characters.
And it showcases the ever-wonderful Kathryn Hahn. God, I love that woman! I could watch her do her taxes.
My only wish is that "Mrs. Fletcher" will live within the confines of its limited series format and won't overreach for more episodes- even if it rates well with viewers.
Because sometimes less is...perfect.
This series will hopefully ripen in its subsequent episodes and leave us with completed sense of satisfaction after its brief stint.
But this is Tom Perrotta territory, so we might end up with vague and uncertain conclusions...
But as long as this short-run series stays lean and avoids the bloat of tacked-on future seasons, I'm wagering it will be worth the watch.

I have never written a review here before but need to let people know not to miss out on this! It's funny and surprising and sexy but not sexist, and most of all, it's so important!
There are no other shows out there that give such a true and varied display of today's porn culture and how you are confronted with and affected by it, whether you be a 19 yo male or a 45 yo female. It's a super important topic that is not being talked about in series & movies, and I love how it is portrayed from all sides here!
Please keep this show running so the next generations don't keep thinking choking and degrading sexual partners is actually the only way for people to have sex!
At only 30 minutes an episodes without advertising this is well worth the time. My only complaint is that it is too short.
Being a huge fan of Kathryn Hahn since Crossing Jordan in the early 2000's I will watch almost anything she is in. This is just one of those shows you will either love or hate, my partner is the opposite of me, she didn't like it.
This is timed well with the Me Too movement in full swing. I like that women are speaking out and putting males who don't treat women right in their place.
Men have gotten away with it for far too long.
I found this show very funny, also very sexy and sometimes sad and also it didn't try to be PC, but it is ultimately a really enjoyable show and well worth the 3.5 hours of watching if you are lucky enough to be able to binge watch it.
Bring on season 2, cant wait.
