A ton of visual effects and editing went into this, you'd be surprised what you could do with archival footage and a team of funny actors and improvisers, it makes for an actually hilarious mockumentary about something that actually happened, with a good script that goes decade-by-decade and intersplices presidential footage, with an adorable animal, the chimpanzee.
Chop Chop Ching has a great premise! The story itself is so hilariously ridiculous, you're like haha....woah yeah I could believe this. I especially appreciated the use of Callaway Gardens since I'm from Alabama.
I also have to give a shout out to the sheer volume and variety of media used to tell the story. The effort put into that aspect of the film deserves the 5 stars.
However, the assembly of that material was dismal. I get choppy editing is a useful effect and it would have been ok had it been used in moderation. But the continual chopping combined with all the fading in and out montages, it just got too busy. Very distracting. I also feel that of the "found footage" feel the interviews had was weak. Those should have been more structured.
All I all, a good story with ham handed execution.
I love the concept of this mocumentary. It really felt like it was a true story at some points! It had some very funny jokes and a very funny cast! It is a good time all around!
I have never in my life seen a movie so well spliced together from b-roll of historical footage. The acting was very solid and comically dry in a way that makes it feel like you're actually watching a true to life documentary. Most importantly though, they taught a monkey to smoke dang cigarettes. Definitely worth the watch.

Operation CHIMP is a mockumentary that uncovers the plot of a bumbling CIA to create a mind control program by training a world class circus monkey. The movie is hilarious and packed with enough jokes to make it worth rewatching to catch them all. The plot is engaging and makes you want to keep watching to find out what is going to happen to Chop Chop Chang. I think anyone who likes goofy comedies or light-hearted spy movies will love this movie!
