    Underwhelming Aesthetics

Occultus is not exactly bad but it's not great either. The aesthetics are too "made for TV" and in some scenes the clothes or props look almost hilariously 21st century. For example, an early costume with the father in a white hood couldn't have been less authentic for some undefinable reason.

I think the director simply isn't very talented. Oh, in one part of the film, the editing is all over the place. A married couple is talking one evening and the scene keeps jumping, like the camera is being jerked backwards and forwards.

The fact that you have to pay to see this right now on Prime is not good. Occultus may only be five years old and made in Italy, but it's not worth it. The quality should immediately relegate this mediocre flick to somewhere like Tubi.
