Honestly one of my favorite animes

Throughout this entire series I was thoroughly entertained. Ikuhara somehow made this anime both stupid (in a good way) and deep at the same time. This is honestly in my top 10 anime, which is saying something because I only have a few animes that I'm positive are in my top 10. Heck, this might even be my favorite anime (although it would take many hours of sitting in silence and debating the pros and cons of every anime I've seen).

    Worth of a second try

At first, i found Sarazanmai confusing, boring, disappointing... like the other people found it. But, i am a strong believer of that you need to know the whole thing to be able to review it. And now, after 9 chapters the plot is strong, it had some really good twists and all the confusing things has been taking some clarity.

Is not just a show about nonsense, it's something that has a lot of messages since the first chapter that are relevant in the posterior ones. It has a really well structured history and plot, the characters aren't completely plain and it has enough unexpected plot twists. It's not just predictable on any sense if you don't know the original material.

Graphically is pretty good (a bit over saturated but i think it was the main intention) and the soundtrack it's interesting and hilarious.

It is definitely a show that it's worth of a second try, or a third one.

For me, is one of the best animes of this season. It just needs a little bit of patience.

    Confusing and Boring

I watched episode one. The only positive I have is that the animation is really really good. I'm a big fan of weird things, but this is just boring.

I honestly thought I had high hopes for this anime, but it turned out disappointing instead as I went along......

After watching 4 episodes of this anime, I found that it kept having the same format on each episodes. We are hearing the same two songs again from the characters, as much as they are catchy and good, you want others too! I'm not saying to keep producing new songs and then the rest is forgotten but I would like to have at least more new songs on the anime to add freshness to it. When I first looked at this anime, I was blown away and fell in love with it straight away! I also was surprised to find out director Kunihiko Ikuhara also directed "Revolutionary Girl Utena" which I loved and I was so disappointed I didn't like this one. This anime was so colourful, had great Japanese voice actors as well as involving their singing voices and the characters were good. Unfortunately I felt the storytelling was rather too vague by not thinking outside the box to add more new ways to attract viewers like myself to keep watching it.

I think its best to stop watching this anime and hopefully find other "over the top" ones that are way better then this!

    • Trivia
The word "sarazanmai" is a portmanteau of Japanese phrases:
      • "sara" means plate. In Japanese mythology, kappa (water demons) have a plate on their heads that contains water. Whenever a kappa is on dry land it must keep water in the plate; if it ever dries out the kappa will lose its power and eventually its life.
      • "zan" means "three" (in Japanese either "zan" or "san" is used for the number), referring to the three protagonists.
      • "mai" means "real love" ("ma" meaning "real" and "ai" meaning "love"), referring to the connection between souls.
