The video features, among other things, excerpts from the protests in Tiananmen Square in 1989, including the famous "Tank Man." The song also addresses this event in a modified version of the original verse. Other historical and contemporary footage is also included in the video, including protests by the civil rights movement in the USA, the band "Peter, Paul & Mary," who also successfully covered the song, and images of refugee trains from Prague bringing citizens of East Germany to West Germany in the pre-reunification period in the summer of 1989. There are also various historical shots of trains and, above all, train crews.
