Shot on cheap DSLR with kit lenses, and edited in an 8-bit project, as shown with the banding during crossfades, this one looks like a local amatuer acting schools annual film for the students to show off what they've learned.
'Acting School', not 'Film School', as there's little evidence of camera or lighting skills, and none at all of any particular style, beyond the imitation News Journalist Style.
This one should have gotten in an experienced Cinematographer and good Gaffer, and sent the script out to be tightened up, the jokes are flat, the plot is telegraphed in early, as is the 'big secret' of the twist, and it really looks like the actors best work comes from,.... Ah, who'm I kidding,.. there's no really stand out performances, just a couple of scenes, mostly between the camera guy and the make-up artist characters, that are less bland and more natural then the rest of the film. Mary Caitland Williams does more with grunts and sniffing then half the rest do, and Ashley Nadeau draws a smile, but no chuckles, with her characters 'old Russian saying' lines.
This one has too much dialog and not enough effects blood or screaming victims to to be worth sitting through.
It's one redeeming feature is the music, spotting which real film inspired the snippets between scenes.
This doddering parody of zombie movies has more in common with Jerry Warren than George Romero, with a relentlessly static camera and threadbare sets capturing local TV station-type interviews of the people involved in a "Z Girl" living dead beauty pageant. Set in a time after a zombie invasion has been tamed by the living and where the remaining undead are exploited, there is some humor in the concept of a TV network dedicated to a dead girl competition in singing, acting, etc. Unfortunately, ZOMBIE BEAUTY PAGEANT fails to exploit those possibilities, weighed down by a script that runs out the clock with a talkathon featuring smirking, hey-don't-look-at-the-camera performances. The zombie girls aren't threatening enough to be scary, and we never see much of the pageant itself. The in-jokes and unfunny asides made by the inept cast are equal in artistry to the slow motion direction. Apparently, there is an entire Z-movie series that should be avoided like a zombie plague.
The other review by "johnanthonymazzei" is absolutely fricking hilarious and such a weird way for a guy to make 25 bucks lol
