Don't really understand the low rating this show gets. It's got a snappy script, well executed by the cast. It is a very classic sorry but embraced in it's fullness. It's a bit silly and a bit serious, but anyone watching it should never forget that this is intended to be silly. I like it and plan to finish the season as it unveils. I don't expect amazing twists and turns, just an enjoyable ride.
I'm so surprised at all the bad reviews, esp from critics. I think this show is fun! I don't like horror and I think the scary stuff is just right. Funny writing and the family dynamic is interesting. Let's see, what was that other Courteney Cox comedy that was totally panned by the critics but the viewers liked? Oh yeah - "Friends."
Not sure if it won me over or if I just became accustomed to it after the first 3-4 episodes.
I went from "Wth is this?" --> "No way I'm continuing to watch this!" --> "This is the last episode I'm trying" --> "Hmm, did they get better or did I just get used to this?" --> "Ooh, what's next??" --> "Wow, did I get hooked?" --> "Wait, what? I finished both seasons already?!"
This is the most confused I've ever been about a show, but it got a 7 from me.
Do I recommend it? You'd just have to see for yourself and maybe resist the urge to turn it off during the first few episodes, even if you feel unsure or annoyed.

I must admit I wasn't all that into it at first. But if it was on I'd let it sort of play in the background. After doing that a few times it started to grow on me. Now I look forward to new episodes. Some of the complaints I've seen on here are pretty harsh. I don't think they are fully warranted but I admit it's not everyone's cup of tea. However, it might be yours if you give it a chance. I'm glad I did. By the way, love Judith light as Courtney Cox's mom. The family is a mess but entertaining.
Don't be deceived by negative reviews, this is definitely worth your time! I came close to passing on this brilliant series but glad I gave it a chance. The writing is perfect and love the hilarious quips between the family members. I would have given it a higher rating but wanted more. Eight episodes Isn't Enough, pun intended. The family dynamic is enough to make me go bat cray, too. You will be left wondering if Pat is really cray or possessed. The ending left room for a season 2 but not sure how it could be done.
Judith Light is perfect in the role of the whacky grandmother, and the daughter has an amazing singing voice. As an added bonus, we get to see Greg Kinnear's warm, sweet man cave! He's aging very well. I binge-watched this series in two days, and I'm very picky about what I watch. Trust me, this is good. This is the perfect show to throw a viewing party with friends and cocktails.
