William Clift wrote and directed this well-intentioned history of the LGBTQ+ movement. Unfortunately, this telling falls short on way too many levels. It was done in conjunction with the magazine. 'The Advocate' which for years characterized itself as the national gay magazine. That really was never the case, however, as the vast majority of its stories and profiles favored west coast events and people. This is exactly what happened in this disjointed, convoluted and geographically prejudiced story, ignoring many east coast and Midwest contributions that were important to the proliferation of this very important movement. Clift misses the boat here. One day, a comprehensive, geographically balanced story will be told about our history. Regrettably, that has yet to happen.
