Other than th3 brilliant portrayal of Jayasurya as a transsexual, this is another one of Ranjith Sankar's preachy social commentary with little importance for the narrative. To top it, the politics of the film, how transgenders are treated by the society is shown in a minimum risk way that cater to the public views rather than actually being politically correct. But I have to admit if it wasn't as preachy and inspirational, if it was politically correct it wouldn't have been such a commercial success as it is now. For the most part it did change the perceptions of at least a small part of the Keralites.
Liked the film very much. Thanks to jayasurya for his courage to take this role. Really inspiring film. Everyone should see thus film. Must watch. You will love this. Really an inspiring work to elevating a community needed to be uplifted to the front row. Its a thrilling film which i assure you. Please do watch the film and encourage these type of courageous works and entertain these type of films. These type of films will uplift our society and uplift the perspectives of people to a long extend. In the mean while it entertains and thrills you. It's a brilliant work for sure and everyone needs applause.
Purposely postponed watching this movie for a long long time.
The movie shows how the society fights against unfamiliarity and even goes evil to to stop what they think is wrong. Since its a movie there are few positive characters who help out, hope there are people in real life who do help like them. Must watch this movie if you don't know a transsexual person.
Ranjith Sankar really knows how to make movies. Or rather how to make emotional and inspirational movies. (He only started making serious ones once he began producing them, though.) Following up with his 2015 film Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam (also starring Jayasurya), he again picks up a hugely relevant topic for Njan Marykutty and fires it up with all his might. The straightforward and highly predictable story of a transsexual woman (Jayasurya) who finds it difficult to blend into the society is enhanced by rock-solid performances and occasional highlighting of stark social issues in Kerala and elsewhere in India. How the society fails to receive a person when he tries to change his sexuality is what director Sankar aims to convey here, and for that, he uses a mechanical container that also doubles up as a motivational film. Jayasurya, in the performance of the year so far in Mollywood, shines all the way. I am not surprised by his performance, but only has led me to wonder what really inspires him to take such roles and do it with so much finesse. Supported by a linear, easy-going storyline and good writing while not resorting to vulgarity, Njan Marykutty further increases its appeal as a decent film that hits multiple notes with great flare and ability. Watching it is like gulping down water in the middle of a night, thirsty and with eyes wide open. Although there are some usual ingredients - that are very commonplace in Malayalam films and even in Sankar's films - I am ready to ignore them because Njan Marykutty inspires and sheds heavy light into a real-life issue of stereotyping in today's world. It's a great watch and one that is essential. TN.
The best depiction of transgender in this movie an eye opener for our society and jayasurya the best choice to show it to our society
