Hellbox 2

The imagination of this film is awesome. The first one is also good but in the second story is replaced by sheer brilliancy in the details of horror imagery. Secondly, I want to say that this a movie all fans of horror would have to see. It is the spirit of Constantino´s early vision. The creatures from hell are all back from the clips that I saw it seemed more than promising and it sure was a great horror movie. The special effects are wonderfully inventive and have clearly had more money thrown at them. "Hellbox II" is a glossier and more muscular beast than its predecessor. Pushed forward by a strong cast (featuring Francisca Serralha that unfortunately died in January) and Constantino has the priest and Hugo Silvestre as Alastor. This new monster lead is incredible, hope he can be in the next chapter.

Reasonably good performances from most cast members, visually tight direction from Rui Constantino, great make-up effects and lots of cool imagery (including a dream sequence that you're not likely to forget) Die-hard fans of the Hellbox series might be disappointed by the lack of more monsters and even the minions they have very few screen time, ) but if you're open-minded you might enjoy the movie for what it is.

Respect to this director that proves that portuguese direction can be great, in this sequel he proves that he has a great talent not only to direct but has an actor, but for me the actor Hugo Silvestre has Alastor it´s great, loved this character, whenever he is on screen it´s pure magic, is presence is top, the guards are awesome, they look highly original. Throughout the film there are a series of visually spectacular set-pieces. The look and atmosphere of Hellbox 2 belies is very modest budget. Rui Constantino and his team consistently make the most of their meagre resources and it's never obvious that this is so low-budget. The performances are universally strong.

I highly recommend this horror classic. In time this series will become a cult classic for portuguese viewers.

Indeed, I felt Hellbox 2 exceeded the original in every way a sequel can. Largely the same cast as the first film, introducing new characters as needed, the main cast give varying performances, but most are on the better side of any horror film I've seen. The lesser the character, the lesser the performance but hey, this is horror, and for horror it's not bad. There are sequences of such nastiness that even I had to flinch a couple times. The new demonic evil Alastor it's a great addition to the saga. Unfortunately along with the gory stuff there isn't time for the horror elements used in the first one.

Recommended for all fans of the genre.

I found the film to be very good and even better than the first one. But this film had a more modern take on it, very suspenseful, gory, and action-packed. Cool ending as well. So thumbs up for this sequel 10/10
