Poor regurgitation of other movies in this genre

I am a huge fan of Hye-Soo Kim. I am also a big fan of this film genre. I am not offended by or have any problems with sex, violence, or explicit language. Based on those facts, it would not have been that difficult for this movie to get a high rating from me. But, despite strong performances by the main characters, I cannot give more than 3 stars to this movie, 2 1/2 for Hye-Soo Kim's performance alone. The problem with this movie was that it took the easy and obvious way out each and every time. The sequence of events was so cliched, formulaic, and predictable. It appeared to have all the elements of a very gripping and entertaining gangster drama, but instead, it delivered 1 1/2 hour of nonsense. The truth of the matter is all of the characters are criminals who have committed murder and various other serious crimes. The director's attempt to create sympathetic characters out of criminals fell way short of the goal. Even the action scenes are pretty ridiculous. Definitely not worth the time.

    Good movie...

I liked the atmosphere of tension between the characters, the ending not so much, I lost myself a little in the script and characters, common to me in oriental films, my Prosopagnosia does not help at all... Good action scenes, free aggression, prostitution, organized crime, blackmail and shots... good movie...

    A special lady Review

i don't know Korean, but i do love watching movie, no matter which language it speak.I have to be say that Kim Hye soo is one of my favourite Korean actress. Perhaps she is the only one i'm aware of right now. I'm impressed with her work in the movie, and love the way she performed her action scene. I don't want to talk much, but this movie truly worth your precious time. Awesome Movie, Worth your time, Good story, Good action.

It had potential, but ended up ultimately as a mediocre experience...

When I sat down to watch the 2017 South Korean action movie "A Special Lady" (aka "Mi-ok"), I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I found the movie by sheer random luck, and given my fascination and love for the Asian cinema, of course I found the time to sit down and watch this.

While "A Special Lady" was entertaining enough, it just wasn't an outstanding movie. This was because of the storyline, it proved enjoyable enough, but it was lacked that special ingredient to make it outstanding or even making it memorable.

Sure, there were some good and interesting enough moments here and there throughout the movie, but sadly they just drowned out in the abundance of mediocrity that permeated the rest of the movie.

What works for the movie was the rather nice ensemble of casted actors and actresses. Just a shame that they had so very little to work with, truth be told.

This is the type of movie that you will watch once, then never return to watch again. And the movie failed to make a lasting impression, despite of having some nice actors and actresses on the cast list, so the movie will just drift slowly into oblivion.

I am rating "A Special Lady" a very mediocre five out of ten stars. This wasn't a particularly outstanding movie experience from writer and director An-kyu Lee.
