The Solar System

Richard Basehart calmly and a bit eerily narrates this Encyclopedia Britannica film about the Solar System. He, and the handsomely illustrated images of the Sun, the planets, and the distant dots of light that are other stars, proceed in stately order from the Sun on outward, offering the audience facts and cautious speculation about those planets. Neither are the moons of planets left out. For 1977, when this was released, it's a solid science film.

Of course, our state of knowledge has changed in the almost half century since this first appeared, and Pluto has been demoted from a planet to something less. I miss Pluto as a planet, but take some comfort that Clyde Tombaugh, who discovered Pluto, was dead when they decided on that. They probably couldn't have done it if he weren't.
