Netflix has announced the start of production on a brand-new, four-part detective series from Emmy-winning creator Charlie Brooker (Black Mirror). The currently untitled Charlie Brooker project (working title) is described as a “profoundly serious, stunningly original crime thriller” that dives deep into obsession, morality, and the darkness lurking beneath the surface of modern Britain.
The series will star Paddy Considine, Georgina Campbell, and Lena Headey.
Set between the industrial grit of the fictional Northern city of Bleakford and the shadowy corners of London, the story follows a tormented detective (Considine) determined to stop a ritualistic serial killer before their reign of terror claims even more victims. The thriller promises to...

Exclusive: BBC Studios has launched a high-end drama label led by Good Omens EP Josh Cole.
Cole becomes Chief Creative Officer of BBC Studios Fiction and will simultaneously continue running BBC Studios Comedy Productions. He has hired Time execs Andrew Morrissey and Michael Parke as Creative Directors to help steer BBC Studios Fiction, which will be based out of London, Liverpool and Glasgow. Morrissey and Parke are bringing their current slate of projects with them and their BBC Studios-backed River Pictures indie has been shuttered.
The idea for BBC Studios Fiction had been percolating for some time, Cole told us, and is a response to a market in which scripted shows with comedic elements such as Death Valley, Ludwig, Black Ops and Good Omens are performing well, some of which are made by BBC Studios Comedy Productions.
“This is an evolution and expansion of what we’re already doing,” he said.

Exclusive: Channel 4 is tapping into the “new wave” of British comedy, according to the network’s comedy boss Charlie Perkins.
Delivering her first set piece interview nearly three years into her role, Perkins unveiled a trio of new shows from up-and-coming comedy creators, which she said are firmly rooted in the modern day and are not overly costly in an era of super inflated budgets. These are Pigeon from Katy Wix and Adam Drake, Stepping Up from stand-up Josh Pugh and Break Clause from Jess Bray and Alice Snedden.
While Channel 4’s drama budget was recently doubled under the Netflix-bound scripted supremo Ollie Madden, Perkins’ comedy team was not handed the same riches, and has therefore had to be more “nimble,” Perkins told us.
“With the [new Channel 4] Fast Forward strategy, there was a big push to drama and while that didn’t mean budget got taken away from us,...

Netflix has begun production on a new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, with the Slow Horses star, Jack Lowden, stepping into the role of Mr. Darcy. The Emmy, Golden Globe, and BAFTA-nominated actor will lead the upcoming romantic drama alongside The Crown star Emma Corrin, who plays Elizabeth Bennet. Lowden, best known for his roles in Slow Horses, Dunkirk, and Benediction, has built a reputation as the UK’s most versatile leading man. The premise of Deep Cover is almost funny enough to carry the entire film: A trio of improv actors is recruited by the London police to go undercover on a low-level sting operation, on the theory that they can think on their feet. Fortunately, this comedy is more than its plot thanks to the hilariously straight-faced performances of Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed as the hapless actors who wind up embedded with dangerous London gangsters. The film approaches its action tropes with an effective sense of absurdity, but it’s the stars’ kinetic commitment to the bit that makes this relentlessly silly film work.
Howard brings energy and conviction to her role as Kat, an American in London whose visa has almost run out, along with her luck as an actor. Now she teaches improv classes to play the bills, and faces the pitying looks of her old friends.

Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed brought their crime-comedy caper “Deep Cover” to life through genuine friendship and collaborative improvisation, the trio revealed during a post-screening Q&a following the film’s world premiere as the Centrepiece Headliner at SXSW London on Wednesday night.
The action-comedy, directed by “Stath Lets Flats” helmer Tom Kingsley and produced by Colin Trevorrow via his Metronome Film Co., follows three improv actors recruited by an undercover cop to infiltrate London’s criminal underworld by impersonating dangerous gangsters.
“Deep Cover” had its world premiere as the inaugural SXSW London Screen Festival’s Centrepiece Headliner, with the film set to stream on Prime Video starting June 12.
Trevorrow revealed the project’s unusual genesis, explaining that the concept began in 2010 when he and co-writer Derek Connolly heard about New York City police using actors as decoys. The film is based on an original script by “Jurassic World” collaborators Connolly and Trevorrow,...

Some people take improv classes to be better public speakers, others love the community and the unpredictable nature of the performance. In Deep Cover starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed, the comedy format is deployed to infiltrate London's criminal underworld. The film released first-look images last year, but Amazon has just released a trailer for the comedy, which is coming to Prime Video on June 1st.
The film will adhere to the comedy rule of threes, teaming up a trio for the criminal mayhem. Bryce Dallas Howard plays Kat, an improv teacher who fears she may have missed her shot at fame. Orlando Bloom's character is an intense method actor who uses improv as a tool to hone his craft and stay immersed in a role, while Nick Mohammed is the window character and the audience's surrogate into the world of improv as a down-on-his-luck everyman who wants to find his confidence.

Everybody give your very best “yes and” to Prime Video today, as the trailer for Deep Cover has finally arrived. Starring Orlando Bloom (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World franchise), the movie’s plot centers around an improv teacher (Howard) who finds herself leading an infiltration into a criminal organization with the help of two of her students. Featuring supporting performances from Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon), Sean Bean (Game of Thrones), Sonoya Mizuno (Crazy Rich Asians), and Ian McShane (the John Wick franchise), the film looks to be another promising addition to the streamer’s comedy-action lineup.
Howard’s Kat is your average everyday entertainer in the trailer for Deep Cover. She’s taken up a new job as an improv teacher, where she instructs both funny and unfunny people on how to bs their way through scenes in the most comedic way possible.

Time Travel is Dangerous centers around friends Ruth and Megan who run a vintage shop in Muswell Hill. When they stumble across a time machine, it occurs to them that stock is much cheaper if they ‘borrow’ from the past – well, it’s free. They don’t want to change history, or rob banks, they just want to find a nice Victorian lamp or an authentic 80s bum bag without getting sucked into the hellish time-space vortex that is “the Unreason”. The thing is, Time Travel Is Dangerous.
The movie stars Johnny Vegas, Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous), Sophie Thompson, Mark Heap, Brian Bovell, Tony Way, Guy Henry, Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Laura Aikman, Kiell Smith-Bynoe and is narrated by Stephen Fry.
Here at Love Horror we got a chance to quiz some of the creatives behind the brand new Sci-Fi comedy and run them through a set of quick fire questions.

Looking ahead to 2025, here are the 45 films of all genres – from horror to comedy to drama and more – we reckon you really shouldn’t miss.
Special mentions:
Firstly, the movies you won’t be seeing, but want to namecheck. Our rules were that we didn’t want to include films that had screened, but not made it to the UK yet (with the exception of British films). Hence – sorry Kevin – the next Horizon film isn’t on the list. There’s stuff we’re watching for release dates too: Above The Below, Mother’s Pride, All Of You, and such like. We acknowledge too that there’s a Michael Jackson biopic that you won’t find below. Plus superhero films that don’t really need our help, so we limited ourselves to one or two of those.
Instead, here’s the 45 films firmly on our radar for 2025…

The BBC is moving closer to approving its next big sitcom, and Deadline has just released information on which production companies are being considered.
Last May, Jon Petrie, the head of comedy at the BBC, announced that his team would fund writers’ rooms for fresh sitcom ideas. Deadline learns that BBC Studios, Big Talk Studios, Various Artists Limited, Roughcut, and Hat Trick have been selected.
These companies are behind some of the most popular British sitcoms of recent times, like Derry Girls, Two Doors Down, Friday Night Dinner, Stath Lets Flats, and Such Brave Girls, all of which have won BAFTAs.
While details are under wraps, it’s confirmed that these writers’ rooms are now open and assembling their teams. Each company is expected to develop a pilot script, episode outlines, and a full writing team. There’s potential for more than one new sitcom to hit our screens.

Between them, these storied outfits have made some of the biggest British sitcoms of recent years including Derry Girls, Two Doors Down, Friday Night Dinner, Stath Lets Flats and Such Brave Girls, securing many a BAFTA along the way.

Jason Statham fans rejoice! As another of the action icon’s thrillers is all set to stream for free from the end of this month. Meaning we’ll be going into the new year just as we’d always hoped - watching The Stath hit as many people as possible. Released back in 2013, the action crime outing Hummingbird, released in the United States as Redemption, is all set to land on Tubi on January 1, 2025, and finds Statham in a much more overtly dramatic role than his usual action movie fare.
Written and directed by Steven Knight, who is best known for creating the hit crime drama series Peaky Blinders, Redemption finds The Stath leading as the mysterious Joey, a former special forces soldier who returns to London after a traumatic experience. Left to find for himself, Joey now lives on the streets and drinks to both numb the pain and...

A long-awaited Jason Statham action movie sequel just got a hugely promising update. Statham is now a full-fledged member of the Fast and Furious family, so much so that, back in 2019, The Stath co-led his own action movie spin-off alongside fellow action icon Dwayne The Rock Johnson. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw saw huge success at the box office, and while both Statham and Johnson continue to feature in the Fast and Furious franchise, there has been little word on a Hobbs and Shaw sequel. Until now.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hobbs and Shaw writer Chris Morgan has now revealed that he is currently writing a Hobbs & Shaw kind of script. Which we can only assume means hes working on bringing Stathams Deckard Shaw and Johnsons Luke Hobbs back together again on the big screen.

The last time Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx shared the screen, they were playing the villainous Miss Hannigan and tech billionaire-turned-adoptee Will Stacks in 2014's Annie remake. That movie musical also happens to be the last time Diaz shared the screen with, well, anyone, as the Charlie's Angels star went on a decade-long acting sabbatical following the movie's release (the two events are presumably unrelated.) But now Diaz and Foxx are back back back in the very shrewdly titled Back In Action, which is not as it happens a remake of *that* Looney Tunes movie (sadly), but rather a buzzy, Netflix bound spy comedy from writer-director Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) and co-scribe Brendan O'Brien (Bad Neighbours). Check out the action-packed trailer below:
"Tonight something clicked," says Diaz' Emily to husband Matt (Foxx) at the start of this new trailer, "for the first time in a really long time I felt alive again.

Netflix is making October 31 a real horror show for fans of the action franchise The Expendables, as the first three movies in Sylvester Stallone and Jason Stathams action series are leaving the platform. While Statham has been enjoying huge success across several streaming platforms with both new movies like The Beekeeper and old favorites such as The Mechanic, Netflix subscribers only have a limited time to appreciate his turn as Lee Christmas in the Stallone-led The Expendables and its first two sequels.
Released in 2010, The Expendables is the daddy of all throwbacks to 80s action movies, as Stallone brings together one of the biggest ensembles of craggy-faced tough-guys ever put on screen in the same movie. Alongside old hands such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham brought his own action hero persona to the party - one that would eventually see him taking over the...

British TV shows have gained audiences from around the world. Some have been given adaptations, while others are good enough to be left as they are for those across the pond and beyond. The variety provided is enough to suit almost everyone's taste, whether that's rooted in comedy or drama.
With so much to choose from, it's unsurprising that a few shows slip under the radar. Sometimes, they don't make it quite as big as other programs, even though they're as good as any other. Even though they may have gained some positive recognition, there are a few series that deserve to be at the top of TV buffs' lists.

Stath Lets Flats is one of the silliest and funniest British comedies in recent years. Airing for three seasons between 2018 and 2021, the BAFTA-Award winning show follows Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag) as Stath, the shambolic Greek-Cypriot real estate agent who works at his dads agency in North London. Stath is a bumbling fool who is terrible at his job; he is a brilliant parody of a smarmy and incompetent real estate agent. Stath has an exaggerated air of desperation about him as he strives to gain his fathers approval at work something he desires more than anything else.

Fremantle, part of media giant Bertelsmann’s Rtl Group, has struck a first-look drama development deal with Roughcut Television, the production firm co-founded by CEO Ash Atalla, the producer of the original British version of The Office and The It Crowd.
The agreement follows the companies’ recent team-up on Paramount+ U.K. & Ireland psychological thriller series Little Disasters, starring Diane Kruger (Troy, Inglourious Basterds) and Jo Joyner (The Wives, For Her Sins).
Roughcut, founded by Atalla and chief operating officer Tim Sealey, is mostly known for comedy shows, such as Big Boys, Stath Lets Flats, and Cuckoo but it has also had success with recent Channel 5 drama Coma, starring Jason Watkins.
“The first-look and drama development deal will see Fremantle become the primary home for Roughcut TV’s scripted drama projects, with the producer working closely with Fremantle’s acclaimed global drama and international distribution divisions,” the companies said.

Paramount’s Transformers and GI Joe crossover movie, set to star Chris Hemsworth, has a writer: Derek Connolly, who wrote Jurassic World and Detective Pikachu.
Toys will collide in Paramount’s forthcoming Transformers and GI Joe crossover film – a cinematic extravaganza previously hinted at in 2023’s Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts.
Who will write this meeting of Hasbro properties? Derek Connolly, the screenwriter behind such effects-heavy films as Jurassic World and Detective Pikachu. Paramount’s crossover film will star Chris Hemsworth in some capacity, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, will see the Autobots and the Joes pitted against the evil Decepticons and the terrorist group, Cobra.
Hemsworth is lending his voice to Optimus Prime in this September’s Transformers One, a CG-animated prequel about the transforming robots’ earlier lives on the planet Cybertron. How did Autobot leader Optimus Prime and Megatron (voiced by Brian Tyree Henry) go from friends to mortal enemies?...

Where does the time go? It feels like only yesterday that Taskmaster’s series 17 contestants first appeared in the studio, shakily establishing their pecking order, testing out their rudeness vs sucking-up strategy when it came to Lord Greg Davies, and shifting nervously in their seats as they wondered which of their psychological breakdowns had made the edit. Now, they’ve all grown-up and left home, leaving five empty chairs waiting for the next set of bums to warm them.
Those bums, and the comedians attached to them, have now been officially announced. Competing for the head of the Taskmaster in series 18 will be: Andy Zaltzman, Babatunde Aléshé, Emma Sidi, Jack Dee and Rosie Jones.

How do the makers of Bridgerton keep a fandom as dedicated as theirs guessing? How does the Netflix show surprise a core of fans who are so intimately familiar with Julia Quinn’s source books that they’re anticipating every blush and ball before it even gets to the screen?
One solution, as has happened in season three, is to play with the established order of things. Though Benedict Bridgerton’s romance follows on from that of his brother Anthony’s in Quinn’s book series, the TV show has (rightly!) vaulted over that to first show the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
Their other answer? Invention. In addition to TV-only characters Madame Delacroix, Will and Alice Mondrich and Queen Charlotte herself, a new raft of invented-for-the-show characters appear in season three. Here they all are, along with info on the actors playing them, plus a couple...

“We’re delighted to be bringing this new action comedy to our customers”, said Tushar Jindal, Head of Content, UK for Prime Video. “With an incredible cast, a top-class creative team, and a fantastic script we know it’s going to be a hit.”

If you wondered what Colin Trevorrow was doing post his Jurassic trilogy, the answer probably isn’t what you expected. His next project is a script he’s penned with World collaborator Derek Connolly, plus British comedy duo The Pin, aka Ben Ashenden and Alexander Owen (who made brief appearances in Jurassic World Dominion) – a starry comedy titled Deep Cover. And as far as it looks, there isn’t a dinosaur in sight.
The film revolves around a trio of improv actors who take part in police stings, catching out unaware criminals – but soon they get sucked into London’s criminal underworld thanks to the power of pure persuasion. Those three yes-anders will be played by Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Ted Lasso’s Nick Mohammed – and they’ll be joined in the cast by Sean Bean, Ian McShane, Paddy Considine, and Sonoya Mizuno. That’s a seriously stacked cast.

Paul Walter Hauser as Dark and Jacob Tremblay as Orion – DreamWorks Animation © 2023
We’re just weeks away from getting to watch the brand new DreamWorks Animation movie that features a script written by Charlie Kauffman. In anticipation of its release, Netflix has confirmed the full cast lineup for Orion and the Dark plus released a new trailer and stills.
Announced last year at the Annecy Film Festival, this will mark DreamWorks Animation’s second major Netflix Original movie for the streamer following Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans from Guillermo del Toro.
Based on the book by Emma Yarlett, the movie comes from director Sean Charmatz and is about a young elementary school kid who is afraid of everything, including bees, the ocean, clowns, and countless other things. Amongst the biggest things he’s afraid of is the dark, which comes alive and whisks Orion away on an adventure.
