James Bond/007 entered the 1990's with a powerfully memorable film and a dynamite of a theme song as performed by legendary Tina Turner. "GoldenEye" was a most needed welcome back for the agent and his fans after a six-absence and it had nothing to do with the franchise idea of becoming obsolete after the end of Cold War - there was the concern but it was mostly due to the studio being aquired by a dumb mogul that didn't care about the film business, so Bond films were put into a halt.
Anyway, "GoldenEye" got made and a promotional video for the title track was directed by clip veteran Jake Scott (Ridley's son) in the usual tradition of blending the singer act within effects and moments to make us remember the franchise, and lots of clips from the film starring Pierce Brosnan.
It's a very good song with a mix of 90's pop beat with some throwback to the typical style of Bond theme songs. But I must admit that I don't hear it often as the themes from 1970's and 1980's. Just a matter of taste - the songs didn't got all that better neither became a matter of becoming massive hits, despite the Oscars given to the three final films of Daniel Craig as 007 (and I only enjoyed the "Skyfall" theme; the others were rubbish.
Yet, watching Tina at the top of her game, a great hit-maker, is always cool and worthy of admiration - but don't try singing her prolongued high notes in this track. 8/10.
