This film tells the story of a college girl who tries compensated dating to get inspiration for her column.
The story is actually quite good. It strikes the right balance between entertainment and questioning the morality of her actions. It is light enough and yet still treat this as a serious subject. I enjoyed it a lot.

"The New Romantic" isn't terrible, it's just bland. Plot-wise, nothing particularly interesting happens the entire movie. The movie just kind of meanders through 2-3 plot-lines without digging very deep into any of them. Additionally, neither of the two main plot-lines are actually closed out, however because neither storyline was really fleshed out in the first place you don't really notice or care.
Since this movie is more of a romantic comedy, a dull plot would have been acceptable if in its place there were some form of character/relationship development. But, because the plot is so thin and the pacing is relatively slow... the main character doesn't really interact with anyone outside of her roommate in more than 3-4 scenes, meaning no real development takes place.
The net result is a movie that just kind of exists for the sake of it. "The New Romantic" wasn't bad, but I honestly don't think anyone would notice if it didn't exist.

The movie was okay. The idea was nice and the performances were great. Especially the leading lady was brilliant and I loved her. However, the movie seemed to have no point at all. The themes that it dealed with never reached a conclusion and in the end, they wrapped everything up with a cheesy conclusion.
The movie was generally just ok. Nice sound track decent acting by the leads. Brett Dier stole the film in my opinion and wish he had a bigger part. I found myself only really paying attention when he was around. But I'd still recommend it as a late night little rom com. Not bad.
The movie is very generic and simple but watching lead actress going sugar baby, looking like elementary school student is disgusting.
Note I don't hate this actress (she's just bad actress who looks like 10 year girl), but she doesn't fit it at all.
