Project IPK is an initiative of the Passionate Filmmakers Consortium (PFC), a Pretoria based Non-Profit Company led by passionate filmmaker, Bonginhlanhla Ncube, a.k.a "Mr. B". This flagship program by PFC allows top creatives in a film or TV production to put together their skills, expertise and resource into making a film or TV series and 'co-own' it.
Top creatives of a film ranging from HoDs, Producers to Above-The-Line cast combine forces forsaking their time and immediate salaries and produce a film. A pre-agreed share percentage of equity is allocated to each 'Equity Owner' (EO), cast often share what is allocated to the Above-The-Line, usually 15-20%. How much of that Cast Equity is given to a particular actor is based on the intensity of their character usually calculated by the amount of scenes they appear in and the intensity of such scenes.
Often the top creatives are;
1. Cast (Above-The-Line Cast will hold 10 - 20% equity depending on a Project's budget)
2. Writer, Director, Editor (usually all get a fixed 7%)
3. Producer often gets the highest portion (between 40 - 55%), this share is usually reduced by investors in the form of Executive Producers
4. Camera Department (usually holds a fixed 15%)
Whoever is holding IP is in clear understanding that they foot all costs of their area / department and / or source all means necessary, e.g. Cast will source their own Wardrobe / Costume Designer and pay for such, Camera Department will assemble all equipment necessary for a plausible 'non-quality-compromising' production. The Camera department will put together the Camera, Lens, Lights and Grips - in order to earn their 15%.
The Producer puts the entire production together, hiring a Director, Editor and Writer. Then later, the Producer will be responsible for managing sales and paying out all equity holders according to their share strength.
