    ...FLOW

A day in the (late) life of a modernist painter that lived two Japanese eras. I confess that I did not know about him. Modernism is a relative term; the movie starts with an scene in a Museum where the Emperor observes one of his paints and after a while he say something like "...what child painted it?" The film is set in the 70s with Morikazu Kutagai in his 90s. This man lived his lasts decades without venturing outside his garden in Ikebukuro Tokyo and the story shows one of those days where he mainly explored his own salvage garden and by night dedicated to paint if he was in the right mood. Contemplate insects; little stones and fishes was his daily routine in those days; not aware of the exterior World but to maintain such own reality no doubt that is not possible alone; all the other mundane stuff felt in the shoulders of his Wife and single niece so to be eccentric you should need a strong Woman (in this case) behind you that has the same values and understand the "in s and outs " Flow is the key; flow in a Zen manner; the guy was not perturbed by visitors; obligations; he does not even perturbed by the building that was doing in front of his garden that will cover all in shadows... "All I can handle"

-Simple slow paced story but pretty good developed with its "magical" moments. Very good photography and camera work.
