    Interesting concept but boring direction

    2.5 out of 5 stars.

The season premiere is a weak start. It introduces the family that moves into a mansion. After a tragic past. The three kids discover that the house has secret keys that opens doors to different dimensions or passages.

The script is cliche. Two rebellious teens who ignore their mother and younger brother. And the younger brother that discovers the abnormal voices and noone believes him. It was a slow build up. With boring characters.

The direction is slow and dull. The cast is decent.

Overall, it was difficult trying to sit through this episode.

    The first episode shows promise

Whilst being a slow burn first episode, this new series shows promise. Given its IDW comic book origins, I have high expectations.

The cast are solid, there's a great creepy atmosphere, and a fantastic score to accompany the drama.

    8 out of 10.

    The writers went missing

Sadly this series is a classical example of what happens when the writers are not careful and attentive to details. Around chapter 5 the trama just becomes absurd and the choices taken by the characters became irrational and stupid for no reason at all. Plain and simple this was bad writing.

    Really Disappointing

The source material is all there; one of the best comic series of the last 20 years is butchered and blandly reconstructed into yet another mindless YA show.

Poorly casted, boring, lacking any of the edge or horror that the fantastic comic possessed in abundance. Word perfect dialogue replaced hack scripting. It's hard to believe Joe Hill was involved in this.

Producers insisted that the story had to be rewritten for tv; how often do they do this and how often do they get it wrong. Tonally all over the place and borderline insulting to adult viewers.

If only this was held back for Duffer Brothers or someone passionate enough to do the source material justice.

If it was bad it would be more interesting, this is just a castrated facsimile of far superior material - when will the tv execs learn?

    Pass.

    Supernatural thing's

I liked it, it has a description of supernatural powers and has a little silent atmosphere to understand, which is a bit boring but did not tell anything wrong, the powers of the keys are also good for everyone.

    • Trivia
The town's name is changed from Lovecraft in the comics, to Matheson. According to creator and EP 'Joe Hill', this was done in honor of writer Richard Matheson, whose work provided much of the inspiration for the original comic.
    • Goofs
When the family is walking through the Drawing Room during the tour with Duncan, Bode changes positions from behind Kinsey to quite a ways in front of her instantly between shots.
    • Quotes

Duncan Locke: This is the drawing room.

      Nina Locke: Ooh. Drawing room.

Bode Locke: That's good for you, Kinsey. She likes to draw just like you, Uncle Duncan.

Kinsey Locke: A drawing room is where people would go drink and smoke cigars after dinner, snot-gobbler.

Bode Locke: Well then why don't they call it that?
