I don't know why other amateur reviewers like me have been so lukewarm about "Revolutionary Love". Sheltering at home this spring, I've been cheered up by Korean and Chinese serials, and this is one of the better ones. It has characters in large and smaller roles you come to care about and cheer for when they succeed in various ways, villains you love to hate, a believable love story, and a look at various aspects of modern Korean culture. Of course there are standard characters like the plucky heroine and the evil industrialist, but these are especially well done. A bonus was one of the heroes, who at first-to Western eyes at least-seemed more funny-looking than handsome (the actor has a wonderfully mobile face) and becomes more and more appealing in looks as well as actions as the story goes on. It's not on the very top of my list, but it's definitely near the top. I hated to have to say good-bye to the characters.
Had this drama dropped, but opted to watch it after all. After competing it I've got to say that it didn't really changed my mind about the story or the romance. The good thing, probably one of the few good things, about this drama are the performances that are good. I like both Siwon and Gong Myung from their previous dramas and since this one was Siwon's come back from the military hiatus, I had to try it. The story however was weak and lucked originality. The rich son who fell for the hard working poor girl isn't something you rarely watch in dramas and Revolutionary Love didn't help to break that stereotype. At least the love triangle was nice and I enjoyed the relationship between Joon and Je Hoon. The main romance, though, was boring and kind of lucked chemistry. So, because of the boring plot, 4 out of 10.
Somewhat of a love triangle - I say somewhat because in order for it to be a love triangle, the 3rd wheel has to let someone know he really likes the girl. A lot of time is spent on character Kwon Jae-hoon pining for the girl he likes but after 8 years hasn't even told her yet. Kwon Jae-hoon is played by. Gong Myung who by the way was my favorite actor in this series. It was because of him that I kept watching it. He plays the serious hard worker at the same company where the second son of the owner is from and gets extra assignments of being a "fixer" of all the problems that arise within the company and always has to take the hits for the rich boy. The rich boy considers him his best friend since he doesn't have any other friends. Then of course the poor hardworking girl enters into the picture too.
There are lots of comical moments in this series that make it fun to watch and lot of lighthearted scenes that are funny so it may be fun to watch for that reason. I was a little disappointed in the ending - who wins the girl? Is it the rich boy or the hard working best friend who does everything for him? Well I really didn't like the ending of this story at all, I wish it was different, but I guess you will have to watch to find out. And even if you disagree with me and like who won the girl, I still think the ending could have been better.
