A Loving Tribute To Classic Star Trek

Star Trek The Animated Series of the 70s is updated in 2017.

There are so many Star Trek fan films on Youtube and, frankly, some of them are just plain terrible. Gems like Star Trek Continues (2013) do appear but several others are not worth watching, much less worth writing about - Paradise Makers is a good one!

Despite being animated, it has more to do with Star Trek (1966) than every episode of Netflix Star Trek combined! It is better than the 70s animated series.

Granted, it is not perfect, the first half of it sometimes jumps away to a subplot on a jungle planet - which is a little hard to follow. Maybe a repeat viewing is required?

Being animated means it can go places the 1966 series could not, such as underwater.

I personally think the music cues in the 1966 series were essential to the identity of the old show, so I am glad to report that Paradise Makers makes an almost non-stop use of the classic series cues.

Don't be turned off by the bumpy opening few minutes that features none of the regular characters, by the tenth minute you will be hooked on the whole two hours of it.

-Production for the 2+ hours of animation took 4 years to complete.

-Much of the animation styles of ST-TPM borrows from the works of Ralph Bakshi, including rotoscoping live actors and xerography of stock footage. Other techniques were inspired by the special effects teams of Sid and Marty Kroft, like chroma keying architectural models into animated scenes.

-All the animation were accomplished solely with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects; along with Corel Painter and Final Cut Pro.
