At the moment I'm discovering all kind of new stand-up comedians. Some of them were just about okay, some I didn't really like, and some are really good. Rory Scovel was new to me and to be honest the beginning of his show was not very convincing humor-wise. But I'm glad I watched the whole show as Rory clearly needs some time to warm up. The second part was way much better, sometimes even hilarious. Visual it was also much better than the average comedians, Rory playing with the audience with his clothing is a good example. The majority of his jokes are well thought of. I will definitely watch other shows of him.

I have watched this 10, maybe 15 times and it's still insanely funny every dang time. I've had to pause and take a break because I'm uncontrollably laughing so hard that it's becomes a danger to my health. Rory is a goddamn genius and I everyone deserves to have this light in their life! Get into it!! This is my church and my therapy! Can't wait for the next one!
I really enjoyed this Netflix Special. I wasn't sure what to expect going into it as I had never heard of him but I definitely want to see more of him.
He reminded me of Bill Hicks in some aspects with his attitude towards the audience and self loathing for his own depravities.
Where I wish he took a bit more of a Bill Hicks approach though was to go a bit deeper with the politics. He clearly has some funny views on the future under President Trump but I didn't feel as though he was educating me on anything whilst making me laugh.
That last part might sound a tad ridiculous, after all he is a comedian but I guess I say it because some of my favourites such as Bill Hicks and Frankie Boyle are able to mix pure filth with deep political thinking and I feel as though Rory Scovel could have entered their league if only he had the boldness to use this as a platform to make people think whilst entertaining them.
Overall though this is well worth watching and I will definitely be watching his future shows and genuinely hope he can move up a notch from pretty entertaining to doing some ground breaking comedy.

Step 1: If you need your comedians to open with a bland greeting and an underhanded softball pitch of an opener, back away slowly and go catch a Tuesday night open mic in your hometown instead.
Once you get past that, just hold on for the ride. What is disguised as silly and absurdist is actually a wonderful blend of deep, well-crafted material and straight up brilliant observation.
I think some people miss the boat here and think he's trying to be something when in reality he is actually making fun of that thing.
If you like comedy that sometimes takes an interesting path, think Louis CK, but he's driving in the shoulder of the road. Rory is reminiscent of Kyle Cease, Kyle Dunnigan, maybe a little Nick Swardson. This is now like eight years old, maybe, and it's pretty funny that some of the Donald Trump stuff has suddenly become topical and relevant again. It still holds up and is a fun ride. -You can skip the side sketches... these are rarely worth watching in a comedy special. Jim Norton is a notable exception. This is one of my favorite specials to go back and watch again, and I docked a point for the sketches. Anyway, enjoy and hang on!

"Rory Scovel Tries Stand-Up for the First Time" is a masterclass on mesmerizing your audience. Rory is super loose, honest, and has a great command/even power over the crowd.
Joke-writing is not Rory Scovel's strongest suit - he shines as a clown/comedy performer. Rory is funny, authentic, and courageous on stage. He is fairly unique in his presence and his audience work. No wonder Rory Scovel has some serious superfans!
His ideas are often interesting and novel - I appreciate him daring to share something so out-of-the-box. I did not enjoy watching this special; however, I found it educational.
