Share? Review: Indie Sci-Fi Thriller Is Missing Meets 10 Cloverfield Lane
Image
Share? is a human story disguised as a science fiction film, showcasing the mundanity of everyday life in an entertaining and thought-provoking way. The film explores the concept of being trapped, whether it's in a physical room or during a Covid-19 lockdown, and raises questions about complacency and the power of distractions. Share? is a claustrophobic indie film with powerful performances, particularly from Bradley Whitford and Melvin Gregg, and offers insight into how we gravitate towards creature comforts even in dire situations.

For a movie so rooted in science fiction, Share? is as human of a story as you will see. Writer-director Ira Rosensweig (Mr. Student Body President) and co-writer Benjamin Sutor (Where’s The Money) have crafted a simple story with minimal production value. The end result is an entertaining yet meditative take on the mundanity of everyday life. Anchored by lead performances from Melvin Gregg (American Vandal) and Bradley...

Image
"I'm a dude in a room talking to a dude in a room." XYZ Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Share?, from filmmaker Ira Rosensweig. The indie film is another social experiment game / live stream thriller, playing on the mechanics of social media to create something unsettling. Melvin Gregg stars as the lead – he's not alone in this streaming prison: Bradley Whitford, Alice Braga, & Danielle Campbell are also stuck in the system, too. They don’t know how to escape or when this game will end. All they can do is keep each other company while entertaining...

Fidlar Announce New EP That’s Life, Share “Centipede”: Stream
Image
That’s Life, the new Fidlar EP coming March 17th, was conceived in the throws of a Lake Powell Dmt ceremony, and the band’s latest single, “Centipede,” captures that energy with violently ecstatic guitar paired with skin-crawling epiphanies.

The skate punk trio’s last studio project was the 2019 album Almost Free, and they began to conceive That’s Life on a 2020 trip through the southwest that featured lots of hiking, sun, and psychedelics. Frontman Zac Carper composed the first draft of lyrics while tripping on Dimethyltryptamine, and so far that session has yielded the two-minute adrenaline rush “Fsu,” as well as “Sand on the Beach,” and “Taste the Money,” all of which appear on the EP.

“Centipede” is another straight-up ripper, though once your lizard brain lets you take a breath, your frontal lobe might chuckle at the lyrics. “My girlfriend thinks I’ll abandon her,” Carper sings, “She’s my Oasis,...

Toronto Musician Francesco Yates Talks Getting Mick Jagger To Dance, Winning Over Drake, Touring With Justin Timberlake & Getting Life-Changing Advice From Paul McCartney
Image
It’s one thing to have the moves like Jagger — it’s another to wow Mick Jagger so much he starts dancing in the studio. However, such pinch-me moments have become common for “Sugar” singer Francesco Yates, whose musical rise has also seen him make his mark with Drake, tour with Justin Timberlake, and get memorable advice from Sir Paul McCartney.

“I feel like people think I’m lying about some of these stories, but I’m not,” laughs the Scarborough, Canada, native, speaking to us before performing at California’s Shoreline Amphitheatre, opening for the Backstreet Boys on their “DNA” world tour. “I feel very lucky.”

The 26-year-old musician’s also pinching himself about being back touring after Covid-19 brought his star-studded climb to a halt. Of course, the pandemic couldn’t dim the drive of a performer who was just two when he began singing and strumming away at a toy guitar.

Bella Thorne in Girl (2020)
#dogpoopgirl - Amber Wilkinson - 16857
Bella Thorne in Girl (2020)
Romanian director Andrei Hutleac's consideration of viral videos and everyone's 15 minutes of fame is so barbed and dark in places the comedy feels fully weaponised as he takes an unfortunate moment and spins it sharply into the arena of modern social networking. Knowing that the film was inspired by a real-life event that saw a woman go viral in Korea back in 2005 only adds to its underpinning of melancholy.

Where many cyberbullying films have tended to focus on teenagers and/or sex-shaming, including Story Of A Girl and Share, Hutleac's film emphasises how a largely insignificant, if unlucky incident, can happen to anybody, whatever their age, spiralling out of control when it hits the Twittersphere and the daily news cycle.

Alina (Andreea Gramosteanu) is a pretty standard type of person. In fact, if anything, she's slightly more caring than the average, given we will learn she was recently her bank's employee of.

What Lies Below Trailer: Mom's New Boyfriend Is Terrifyingly Weird
Image
Vertical Entertainment has released the trailer for What Lies Below. In the footage, we learn that mom's new boyfriend is not exactly who he seems to be. The mystery thriller was directed and written by Braden R. Duemmler, and it will be available On Demand starting December 4th. While the release date isn't too far away, the footage makes it seem like a Halloween release would have been ideal for What Lies Below. Most people spent the majority of their Halloween indoors and this seems like it would have been a good addition.

What Lies Below focuses on Liberty, a socially awkward 16-year-old, who returns from two months at camp to a blindsided introduction of her Mother's fiancé, John Smith. His charm, intelligence, and beauty paint the picture of a man too perfect to be human. One can tell right from the start that something is off with Mr. Smith,...

The film release calendar has always played home to serendipitous programming choices, from movies with strangely similar titles hitting at the same time to features that seem ripped from the same script (as with the infamous 1998 double whammy of “Deep Impact” and “Armageddon”), but this week at the movies offers something with a twist: two new movies with not just closely aligned plots, but nearly identical praise. Two is a trend!

Just yesterday, IndieWire’s review of “Chemical Hearts” arrived with the headline, “Lili Reinhart and Austin Abrams Shine in a Ya Romance for Extra Sensitive Teens,” and that exact phrasing could be used for the week’s other big screen Ya adaptation, Thor Freudenthal’s “Words on Bathroom Walls.” Or, in simpler terms, think of it this way: “Charlie Plummer and Taylor Russell Shine in a Ya Romance for Extra Sensitive Teens.” Both films are based on popular Ya...

Camila Cabello ‘Cinderella’ Finds Its Prince In UK Actor Nicholas Galitzine
Nicholas Galitzine
Exclusive: Word is getting around that British actor Nicholas Galitzine has won the role of Prince Robert in Sony’s upcoming Camila Cabello musical Cinderella.

After a long search, Galitzine, I hear, wowed the filmmakers in many chemistry readings. In addition to Cabello, the actor joins Idina Menzel and Billy Porter (as the fairy godmother) in the Kay Cannon-directed and scripted feature. James Corden produces and has a story by credit. A production start is scheduled for February for a Feb. 5, 2021 release.

Galitzine’s first big film break came at the age of 20 about five years ago when he scored a role opposite Luke Perry in John Williams’ The Beat Beneath My Feet which played the Berlinale in 2015. In that movie Galitzine played Tom, a teenage loner who discovers his rock god neighbor has faked his death over tax fraud and blackmails him into becoming his guitar teacher.

Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone, Zoey Luna Join Cailee Spaeny To Lead ‘The Craft’ Remake From Blumhouse
Image
Exclusive: The Craft remake has found its leads. Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone and Zoey Luna are set to star in the Blumhouse and Columbia Pictures pic along with previously announced Cailee Spaeny. Zoe Lister-Jones is at the helm of the reimagining of the 1996 female-fronted, witch-themed cult classic.

The original, led by Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, Christine Taylor, and Rachel True, followed a newcomer at a Catholic prep high school who falls in with a trio of outcast teenage girls who practice witchcraft, and wage curses against those who tick them off.

Blumhouse brass Jason Blum is producing the project along with Oscar-winning Gladiator producer Douglas Wick, who also produced the first film, and Lucy Fisher for Red Wagon Entertainment. Lister-Jones penned the screenplay and will serve as an executive producer with Andrew Fleming, the director and co-writer of the original, Lucas Wiesendanger from Red Wagon, Natalia Anderson, Daniel Bekerman,...

Share (2019)
Of the films that premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, “Share” might have had the most buzz coming out of the event. The drama, focused on a teenager dealing with the fallout from being blacked out and potentially assaulted, ended up being purchased by A24 and subsequently was signed for distribution by HBO.

Now, with the film only a month away from its HBO premiere, we have a first look at the trailer for “Share.” As mentioned, the film follows the story of a 16-year-old girl that wakes up after a night of partying with no memory of what happened.

ReFrame, IMDbPro Announce 22 Newly Certified Gender-Balanced Films
Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively in L'ombre d'Emily (2018)
ReFrame — a coalition of industry leaders founded by Women in Film and the Sundance Institute — and IMDbPro announced on Tuesday nearly two dozen films to be certified for their gender-balanced productions.

Reframe launched the data initiative in an effort to recognize and promote gender-balanced films and television shows. The collaboration relies on data from IMDbPro to analyze films and television series to see how many women were involved in the production, and how much screen time female characters had. To earn the ReFrame Stamp, a film or TV show must meet a handful of requirements that call for women in key roles like starring, directing, producing, and writing. Additional points are awarded for having racial diversity. (The full criteria can be found here.)

The ReFrame Stamp program launched on June 8 with the announcement of 12 films that earned the stamp out of 100 films surveyed. The group then expanded the program by...

Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, and Zoë Kravitz in Big Little Lies (2017)
Gypsy and The Night Of alumna Poorna Jagannathan is set for a recurring role in the second season of HBO’s Emmy-winning limited series Big Little Lies.

Jagannathan will play Katie Richmond, a new character.

She joins returning cast Nicole Kidman as Celeste Wright, Reese Witherspoon as Madeline Martha Mackenzie, Adam Scott as Ed MacKenzie, Laura Dern as Renata Klein, Shailene Woodley as Jane, Zoë Kravitz as Bonnie Carlson. Previously announced Meryl Streep joins Season 2 as Mary Louise Wright, along with Douglas Smith as Corey Brockfield, along with new series regulars Kathryn Newton, Crystal Fox and Sarah Sokolovic and recurring cast Robin Wiegert and Merrin Dungey.

Per HBO, the subversive, darkly comedic drama Big Little Lies will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode, and the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.
