Star of "Gettin' Lucky" is Tia Bella, perhaps Vivid Video's least famous contract girl over the years, likely because of the brevity of her Adult career. She's a striking beauty and does an okay job, but this slight (only 75 minutes long) feature is underwhelming and so obscure that despite the big-name Vivid label I had to add it to IMDb just now, nearly two decades after its release.
She plays a young girl just signed up by an escort service run by Johnnie Black and Marc Wallice. This being porn, they insist on testing the merchandise first, so the video begins with a three-way sex scene. Fortunately the soon-to-be notorious Wallice (of AIDS scandal infamy) wears a safe-sex condom.
Typical of a quickie rom-com structure, when Tia is sent on her first whoring assignment there's a mix-up in addresses and she arrives at veteran Johnnie's john's home while Black gets her target guy. Johnnie ends up humping cross-dresser Michael J. Cox, whose made up as a male imitation of a geisha, while Tia is stuck with a very uppity young lawyer played stuffily by James Bonn.
Bonn is not a famous porn stud, but rather comes from the "acting" wing of Adult Entertainment, equally at home in XXX assignments or just simulating the sex in those late-night Skinemax type shows. He looks down his nose at Tia's character, and before you can hum Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman" we're in the territory of that hit movie.
Toni English, a filmmaker whom I admire but whose work is highly variable (peak: "Naked Hollywood", usual: various Penthouse potboilers), fails to create much interest in the ups & downs of this pair's relationship, inevitably ending in a coupling. Lots of extras flit by imperceptibly in a big party scene (I didn't see such credited talent as Anita Cannibal and Dakota, hard as I squinted), but the show rests pretty much on the cute shoulders of Ms. Bella. It's worth catching to see her in action, an example of an Adult actress who perhaps inadvertently keeps the audience wanting to see more, rather than shooting her wad in the usual 100s of quick assignments before finding something more useful (and respectable) to do with her life.
