Val Kilmer transformed himself into Samuel Clemons and is a marvelous transformation! Watching the film was like no other portrayal of Mark Twain/Samuel Clemons. I was drawn in by the humor and it was a rare circumstance that I did not want it to end. Val Kilmer created an amazing work. The physical appearance was complete, and it was perhaps the best performance of Val Kilmer's career, an almost impossible feat to top himself in his other incredible performances.
The combination of humor and the drama of samuel Clemons personal life truly made him seemingly come to life. It was both a comedic and a dramatic triumph. I would love to see it again, but I do not know if it is even possible. As a one-man performance, it was riveting the whole length of the film, both funny and serious, and engaging the audience in the life story of this famous author from so long ago. The makeup and costume were perfect! I cannot say enough great things about the film. It was just that good.
