A film ripe with delightful mischief, writer/director Leo McGuigan’s The Invention explores a deeply personal yet universally resonant story depicting a young boy’s rite of passage. Drawing inspiration from stories passed down by his father, McGuigan crafts a charming narrative set in 1960s Belfast. At the centre of it all is Frankie, a boy who, perhaps wiser than his years, reappropriates his mother’s knitting needles for a childhood caper. What begins innocently quickly reveals itself to be something far more complex as Frankie is thrust into the murky waters of moral ambiguity, family secrets, and the stark realities that adulthood will one day bring. McGuigan wanted the film to be filled with a sense of nostalgia while never shying away from the harsh truths and remaining grounded in realism. Through Frankie’s unflinching gaze, we see a world where uncorrupted youth collides with the inescapable weight of a secret.

John Travolta is an iconic actor, but his career has taken various twists and turns. The actor rose to stardom in the 1970s when he played a role in the television series Welcome Back, Kotter. His TV fame helped land him his iconic role in the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever, playing smooth-dancing Tony Manero. Soon, Travolta portrayed an equally notable role in the musical Grease as the leading male love interest, Danny Zuko. Travolta has been nominated for two Academy Awards for Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction.
Despite his status as an Academy Award nominee, Travolta has had plenty of misses in his career. The actor has had multiple movies score a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, including Look Who's Talking Now, Speed Kills, The Poison Rose, Staying Alive, and Life on the Line. While these scores were particularly lacking, he boasts a whole additional host of titles with single-digit scores,...

Quick Links Kellan Lutz Before Due Justice Kellan Lutz's Twilight Run What Is Due Justice About?
Released on Prime Video on November 24, 2023, Twilight star Kellan Lutz is enjoying a surge in viewership with his new action movie Due Justice. Although it holds a lowly 26% Rotten Tomatoes rating and a 3.6 IMDb score, the film shows a much different side of Lutz than fans of the Twilight series are used to seeing him when he played Emmett Cullen from 2008 to 2012.
Due Justice is a vicious revenge thriller that, despite its formulaic familiarity, has performed much better on the streaming platform than it did in a limited theatrical release. For Lutz, it will be interesting to see if the movie's newfound popularity will lead to new acting opportunities or if the low ratings will hinder his future projects.

If you mixed Back to the Future and Halloween, or if The Final Girls had involved traveling in time instead of into a movie, the results might be something like Totally Killer. It’s a time traveling spoof of slasher movies from Blumhouse who already visited this territory with Happy Death Day and its sequel.
The fact it was from Blumhouse was just one of the reasons I debated watching Totally Killer. It was directed by Nahnatchka Khan who is best known for Always Be My Maybe and Young Rock and had no genre experience. John Travolta remembered his Speed Kills co-star Tom Sizemore on social media, calling the actor — who died on Friday at 61 — an “excellent character actor.”
The two worked together on the 2018 crime drama, which also starred Jennifer Esposito, Kellan Lutz and James Remar and was directed by Jodi Scurfield. “I found him to be an excellent character actor,” Travolta wrote in a Saturday Instagram Story. “He knew exactly what he was doing. I enjoyed the experience working with him very much. He will be missed.”
Sizemore, best known for appearing in ’90s and early ’00s action films like Heat, Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor, as well as the Oscar-winning Saving Private Ryan, died Friday following a stroke and brain aneurysm at his L.A. home on Feb. 18. London punk outfit Chubby and the Gang have released a new song, “I Hate the Radio,” from their upcoming album, The Mutt’s Nuts, out August 27th via Partisan.

After swatting back the Covid-19 scourge to some extent, Puerto Rico opened its ports in June 2020. With the year-long curfew lifted in May this year, it’s been business as usual on this Caribbean island of roughly 3,500 square miles.
The capital of San Juan held its first live audience concert on June 26, 2021 with salsa icon Gilberto Santa Rosa playing to thousands at the Puerto Rico Convention Center for the first time since the pandemic closed it down. According to Asm Global regional manager Jorge Perez, 15 other concerts have been announced, with 10 already sold out.
International acts are also coming in as most U.S. mainland venues remain closed. Plunging cases and a relatively high vaccination rate (up to 70%) has brought some semblance of normality and a growing number of location shoots to the U.S. territory, albeit with health and safety protocols still in place.

Rock & roll is often at its best when exploding dead-ends into infinite possibilities. This is no easy trick. It requires a healthy dose of optimism and some wholly irrational belief, but also a clear-eyed understanding of how cold and indifferent reality, and those with the power to shape it, can be. “Lightning Don’t Strike Twice,” the new single from London outfit Chubby and the Gang, contends more with this latter half of the equation, while still refusing to relinquish any of that earlier hope.

Travolta plays an isolated obsessive who tracks down his movie hero in this nasty drama, directed by former Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst
This marks yet another rung down on John Travolta’s ladder of career ignominy after his most recent flops, Gotti and Speed Kills. It’s a grotesque drama in which Travolta plays a disturbed fan. It would be risible if it weren’t so offensive, mean-spirited and, frankly, nasty. Sporting a pudding-bowl haircut, too-small bike helmet and deploying an overdone shuffling gait, Travolta stars as Moose, an isolated obsessive living on the fringes of Los Angeles’ celebrity culture. At night, he busks for a living on Hollywood Boulevard – in costume as a British bobby (complete with Dick Van Dyke-style accent). The aim is to get enough scratch to fund his collection of movie memorabilia, a good chunk of which is devoted to his hero, one-time C-list...

The aim is to get enough scratch to fund his collection of movie memorabilia, a good chunk of which is devoted to his hero, one-time C-list...

As if to apologetically clear the cinematic air for Miami, “cigarette” power boats, and art in general after the atrocity of 2018’s John Travolta vehicle “Speed Kills,” “Omniboat” applies a brisk scrub of cleansing absurdism to the same locational and vehicular themes. This de facto compilation feature by a dozen-plus writer-directors, commissioned by that city’s indie filmmaking collective the Borscht Corporation, is an exquisite-corpse narrative depicting the rocky times of one 47-foot Top Gun speedboat. It’s an inspired goof — for a while, before it turns into waaaaaay too much of a good thing.
As the anarchic randomness ceases to delight and morphs into a viewer endurance test, it becomes clear this “Fast Boat Fantasia” would have been better digested as a series of webisodes, rather than in one eventually wearying two-hour feature. Still, it’s an adventurous experiment with some great bits, and might yet achieve the cult...

Prominently placed at the start of a very long final credit crawl is what may go down in motion picture history as one of the most misguided displays of somber self-congratulation ever: “John Travolta Is Moose. ‘The Fanatic.’ A Fred Durst Film.” Given that this is a movie that starts with an onscreen-text quote from its own bad dialogue, the clueless hubris is no longer surprising by that point. Still,
For starters, it is the worst Travolta vehicle in some time, and coming just a year after the double whammy of “Gotti” and “Speed Kills,” that is really saying something. It also finds him entering that unfortunate pantheon of presumably well-intentioned performances of differently-abled characters that somehow emerge a compendium of the most cringe-inducing clichés of people with limited faculties.

Jennifer Esposito has begrudgingly found herself back in the spotlight after she weighed in on ex-husband Bradley Cooper’s intimate Oscars performance with Lady Gaga.
When the actress, 45, commented “Ha” to a post by comedian David Spade that joked about the possibility of an X-rated romance between the A Star Is Born costars, fans noticed.
“So confused. I get off a flight to see a comment I made of “Ha” to a joke from @DavidSpade has gone wild!?” she wrote on Twitter Tuesday. “Somehow I’m insulting an X by laughing at a joke someone else made? Pls take your insanity elsewhere.

Every critic’s worst movie is another’s best, but Variety critics Peter Debruge and Owen Gleiberman had to draw the line somewhere. Whether it was the year’s top film at the box office, or a right-wing documentary that’s even worse than the filmmaker’s previous outrages, it was a good year to hate-watch.
Peter Debruge’s Five Worst Movies:
“Avengers: Infinity War”
Spoiler alert: The power-mad crazeballs behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe are out of control. First they blew up an entire planet (at the end of “Thor: Ragnarok”) and laughed if off, and then came Thanos’ snap, which (I said “spoiler alert” already — get off my case!) killed off half of all life in the galaxy. When that happened, I wanted to scream, “You can’t do that!” and not because I care about these characters (most of whom are quasi-invincible imbeciles anyway — although I was...

There have been many ups and downs in John Travolta’s career, which currently rests in a valley equivalent to the one he’d hit just before “Pulp Fiction” a quarter-century ago. You might think anything would be an improvement after “Gotti.” Yet the new “Speed Kills” not only isn’t appreciably better, it’s also bad in much the same way: another cliché-riddled portrait of an underworld-tied figure the movie seems to celebrate as one ballsy Sob, though viewers may find his personality warrants more fumigation than admiration.
Portraying the high-flying times and violent death of the erstwhile “King of Powerboats,” this slick yet hapless concoction offers Travolta an opportunity to swagger humorlessly, clutching babes and trophies for nearly 100 minutes. What’s not to like? Well, everything — unless you’re the star, who seems convinced that this embarrassingly cloddish biopic-slash-thriller actually flatters both him and its subject.

Remember good John Travolta? I’m talking “Saturday Night Fever,” “Pulp Fiction,” “Grease” (although severely problematic as a film), and “Get Shorty.” The actor, known for his penchant to be a wee-bit over the top, has turned in some incredible Academy Award-nominated work over the course of his 40+ year career. "I don't owe anybody, anything." Saban Films has debuted a new official trailer for an action crime drama titled Speed Kills, based on a book by Arthur J. Harris. This oddly premiered as a Vr Experience, a feature film presented entirely as a Vr feature, and it won the top award at a film festival earlier this year. John Travolta stars in this action-packed true story of an ‘80s speedboat champion and multimillionaire caught between the mob and the law. The impressive full cast includes Katheryn Winnick, Matthew Modine, James Remar, Kellan Lutz, Jennifer Esposito, Tom Sizemore, Jordi Molla, Michael Weston, Moran Atias, and Amaury Nolasco. By now we all know that Travolta isn't really making any good films anymore, and this looks to be staying true to that. I'm glad they're not trying to still push the Vr experience. "I’m not selling Blue Thunder to you!"
John Travolta! What are you doing!? As you know, the actor has made a string of terrible films in recent years and this upcoming Vr project that he worked on, Speed Kills, looks like one of the most ridiculous. It's like Travolta has just given up on making good movies! Remember, this is a two-time Oscar-nominated actor making these crappy films! I guess John Travolta is having fun making bad movies?
The project is both a film and Vr series experience and it's based on a true story set in Miami in the 1980s. Travolta plays a speedboat racing champion who ends up getting caught up with the mob and when he's not able to keep promises that he made, things take a turn for the worse. The boat he cruises around in has a "007" graphic slapped on the side of it.

Famke Janssen and Robert Patrick have joined John Travolta and Morgan Freeman in the crime thriller “The Poison Rose,” Variety has learned exclusively.
Janssen will play Travolta’s love interest in the film. Former high school sweethearts, the two rekindle their romance when she hires him to investigate a murder. Travolta will play a private investigator who enjoys his share of drinking, smoking, and gambling, as well as women in distress.
George Gallo will direct from a script he wrote with Richard Salvatore, based on Salvatore’s novel of the same name. Salvatore will produce through his March on Productions with Jeff Elliott (“Imperium”), Oscar Generale (“Speed Kills”), and David Ornston. Sales launched earlier this year at the European Film Market with BondIt Media Capital and Sherborne Media Capital providing financing for the picture.
Janssen is best known as Jean Grey in the “X-Men” franchise and has starred in the “Taken” trilogy opposite Liam Neeson.

Agent Alexandra “Alex” Quinn quickly became a fan-favorite on the beloved hit crime series NCIS — so, why would Jennifer Esposito, the actress who effortlessly played the role for 24 episodes, decide to leave NCIS after only one season? Turns out, there was no drama with the network or her co-stars, she was just looking for different career opportunities. Nothing wrong with that! "It was a great experience," Jennifer once said in a statement to Deadline about her departure. "I could not have asked for a better opportunity than to work with the NCIS cast and producers." Shortly after leaving NCIS, the 45-year-old actress went on to land a co-starring role in the feature Speed Kills alongside John Travolta.
