This is a comedy based on a Gujrati play. A 102 year old guy and his 75 year old son live in their ancestral home in Ville Parle in Mumbai. The father is a happy go lucky type of person whereas his son is a rigid, stuck up kind of a person who has a fixed daily routine, going to the doctor daily, etc. One day the father tells him that he is shifting the son to a old age home because he wants to beat the record of the longest living person and needs to be surrounded by happy people, which his son is not. If he does not want to go to the old age home, he has to perform certain tasks. In this way he wants to teach his son to enjoy life, be independent and live a long life, like him.
The director gets everything right from the get go. From the liver spots on the father's face to the finale where the son breaks away from his son's hold. The script is fantastic, the pacing of the movie is good and they don't go over the top ever. The performances by all three characters are excellent.
The Indian concept of family first is challenged here. You as a individual need to enjoy your own life without depending on anyone for that enjoyment. This applies not only to the older folks but to everyone.

102 NOT OUT REVIEW :
I had seen the original drama on which this film is based so obviously i knew everything about script and i didn't need to watch the film but as a movie buff i prepared myself to see how cinematic version turns out. Despite being predictable/seen story to me, this film ended up as a 'Classic' for me then just imagine how much someone will like it who hasn't seen the drama. 102 Not Out is not only a Brilliant Film but also a Life Lesson to everyone.
Story is very interesting and unique, every cinema lover is always ready to see something new and this film is gives you that something new and very interesting theme. Amitabh Bachchan has nailed his role and i believe he deserves some respectable awards for this mind-blowing performance. Rishi Kapoor has done excellent job, he completely suits for that 75 years old guy's role. His voice, expression, body language is just wow. Other cast is okay. Screenplay is tight and engaged, throughout. Runtime of 107 minutes is so perfect and may be that's why film doesn't look boring for a single moment. Cinematography is Average, as i feel scenes in the house, mumbai roaming scenes, nature could have been captured in better way. Music is Decent, this script does not have a place for songs but come on it's a Film, not a drama so anyhow director gonna put some songs for sure, and it was unnecessary. Dialogues are Good, few are so meaningful so does memorable. Direction is Very Good, film has some lose scenes in the first half but thank god Umesh Shukla has covered the loss in second half and especially in the climax otherwise a Classic script would have gone in vain.
Overall, 102 Not Out is Close to Classic Tag, i'm 90% calling it a Classic but 10% unsure because of some mistakes in the first half. Still, somewhere climax has hit the right chords so yes This One is A Classic. A Must Watch for all generation audience. I would have loved to go with 7.5/10* but it's not available on IMDb so yes 8/10* for this one and thumbs up for the team.

Two Master Performers Amitabh Bachchan & Rishi Kapoor, Pull off an awe-inspiring saga of A Father & Son Relationship in a extremely beautiful way.. They not only entertain the viewer but also teach. And they teach and not preach. The importance of Happiness, The joy of free living and that Mischief is ageless and must continue till we breathe.. And as Amitabh Bachchan says in a dialogue.. "Jab tak Zinda ho, Tab tak marna nahi!" (Don't Die, Till You Die)
And so is the movie.. So Very Full Of Life!
Love, Laughter, Emotion and a Sweet Message..
Don't hold back, Go watch it!
Coz If you miss this one.. You're going to miss a lot.
102NotOut : An unusual story of father and son- is adopted from the successful Gujarati play by the same name, written and directed by Saumya Joshi. Amitabh Bachchan as 102 years old man and Rishi Kapoor as 75 years old man are in the lead, & the film is directed by Umesh Shukla.
Dattatraya Vakhariya wants to break the record of a Chinese man who lived 118 years. He gives two options to his son Babulal Vakhariya to either leave his home and live in an old age home or to change himself into a happy and delightful person by agreeing to his terms! And the film takes its pace after one by another challenges which are given to Babulal.
It is a blessing to watch both the legends on the same screen! They are back after 27 years! Amitabh Bachchan plays his role brilliantly. And I know, you are bored of reading this line in every film of his! Rishi Kapoor gives one of the best performances of his career. The pair of these two is fabulous. One more actor is there to entertain you- Jimit Trivedi. Every Gujarati movie lover knows him well because of Gujjubhai Movies. He plays a character of Dhiru with great conviction. His wit is quite enough for audiences to laugh out loud. Especially, the scene of him describing Bamboo trees!
Post interval, many scenes are full of emotion. I have seen the play three times. Each time I've enjoyed it a lot. Despite the fact that I knew what's going to happen next, I cried a lot in post interval! And that is unbelievable...! This can only happen if actors are creating some magic. Even I can also say that the script is also well developed, that every time you can feel the emotion. Now, it is clear on my mind that I love cinema more than theatre, so for me Today is the realization day! Thanks to 102 not out. And special thanks to the background music team, for providing suitable environment.
Just two songs are there- Kulfi & Bachche Ki Jaan, which are suitable to the flow. The usage of old Hindi movie songs are fantastic. Zindagi Mere Ghar Aana and Waqt Ne Kiya Haseen Sitam are still fresh. Like it is shown in film, just try these songs on speaker in night to feel the magic. I can give you my guarantee that if you do it once, you'll do it more often.
Umesh K Shukla has done a good job. Pulling of a script based on a play and that too on such a high level is not an easy task. Editing is crisp. Usage of cartoons are commendable. Set design is as per the script. Costumes are well and good. The Happy Street scene at the end is fantastic. I feel that there are some scenes where characters are happy and celebrating, but as an audience, we get tears in eyes. This scene is one of them! I can not explain in words that how was I feeling at the time when Bachchan and Kapoor were dancing in the rain. Uff...
'Aulaad Agar Nalayak Nikale, To Usey Bhool Jana Chahiye... Sirf Unka Bachpan Yaad Rakhna Chahiye!' - There are many well written dialogues in the film by Saumya Joshi. The love letter scene is too good! As well as the church scene. I must say here that Rishi Kapoor has delivered a very strong performance.
Word of mouth will become this Amitabh-Rishi starrer film's main weapon to destroy Thanos and it'll run successfully at Box Office. Gujaratis do watchout this film for its Gujarati elements. You will never regret of giving your 102 minutes to this wonderful movie- 102 not out. So, go for it guys, learn to live life thoroughly... Yo!

A lovely movie, great acting by all 3 characters.
The movie maintains a feel good tone throughout.
A great mixture of comedy, drama.
A great quote by Amitabh, "I never died not even once". The movie re-emphasizes this quote and oh so beautifully.
Definitely recommended a must watch
