The BBQ
Is this a good movie? Not a chance. Did I enjoy this movie? Bloody Oath I did. It's a redemption story. Daz who poisons the neighbourhood has to redeem himself and win his family back along the way. Full of puns, corny jokes and bad accents.

This movie had promise but the comedy was forced. Julia Zemiro was wasted, Magda had a lovely accent but the backstory was sad. Manu was dreadful as the baddie. The Japanese wagyu breeder was offensive stereotyping.
This Could have been much better.

Bought this off Google play the other day for $3 and I so wish I could get my money back. This is another shocking Aussie movie. Another reviewer says is a down right embarrassment for Australians and I 100% agree. It didn't help that the night before I had watched the great Aussie film The Castle. How far the mighty Australian film industry has falling when we continue to get junk like this.
All the actors were terrible in this too but it was more the script they were working with then the lack of talent. Manu who i can't stand at the best of times is particularly annoying. Magda Szubanski's butcher character wasn't any better and even Shane Jacobson couldn't rescue this film.

WARNING do not watch this movie on a empty stomach as it features a lot and i mean a lot of mouth watering BBQ food. This was a great Aussie family movie, with some cheap laughs, some great education on Captain Cook history, how Wagyu beef is prepared and how to cook a bloody good steak, Shane Jacobson plays the typical Dad role well- and with such an Aussie name (Dazza), he works at the local barbecue galore and is asked to represent the company at the big Aussie BBQ cook off while his wife (who wears the same dress everyday) works at the local IGA. If there was ever an Aussie movie to send overseas to promote us in a good way this would be it. Seeing Manu Feildel (dazzas rival) just gets my excited for the up coming series of MKR. So Manu the score im giving you for your movie is......a 5!
This is not a movie that is going to stress you intellectually. It's a bit of light-hearted and unpretentious Australian fun. The characters are a bit cookie cut and some of the acting is not Oscar award stuff but it does poke a bit of fun at a national passion and some of the pretentiousness of food preparations in today's super chef world. I didn't go expecting much but I enjoyed it for what it was. I think some of the critics who panned it were over-reading the point of the movie. That said I didn't appreciate the blatant advertising of stores and products in it though I recognise this is par for the course in many movies today.
