HBO is hoping to capitalize on that success with an It prequel series called It: Welcome to Derry, which will premiere on HBO and Max sometime this year. The new show is produced by the brother-sister team of Andy and Barbara Muschietti, who respectively directed and produced the two movies.

Umbrella Academy actor Elliot Page is developing a feature film adaptation of Eliot Schrefer's novel The Darkness Outside. Page founded Pageboy Productions in 2021, and the company has produced films such as Close to You and Blackspot.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Pageboy Productions, which Page runs alongside Matt Jordan Smith and Tuck Dowrey, has optioned the rights to Eliot Schrefer's 2021 young adult sci-fi novel. The Darkness Outside Us is a love story about two young men from antagonist countries put aboard a spacecraft on a rescue mission. Exclusive: Beta Film has picked up distribution rights to French thriller Homejacking, which is co-created by Lupin writer Tigran Rosine, and will launch sales at Series Mania.

The German major has revealed its slate for the Lille confab that kicks off in two weeks, with Homejacking set to air in the French Competition Section.

Commissioned for French pay-tv network Ocs, Homejacking is set in an affluent suburban residence where one morning, a middle-class couple is the victim of an intrusion by a hooded assailant. No one know yet what he is looking for, but deep in their basement lies a secret that was hidden for decades.

The series is co-created by Rosine, who penned eight episodes of Netflix smash Lupin. Florent Meyer (Blackspot) is the other co-creator and show was made in collaboration with Emmanuelle Faguer.

Vincent Maël Cardona, whose 2021 pic “Magnetic Beats” won a prize at Cannes’ Directors Fortnight and a Cesar Award for best first film, is set to direct “De Grâce,” a sprawling crime thriller unfolding in the northern French port city of Le Havre.

The series is being co-produced and commissioned by Arte France, and is produced by Pierre-Emmanuel Fleurantin at Ego Productions, a Mediawan company. Belgium’s Savage Films is co-producing. Mediawan Rights is representing the show in international markets.

Disney Plus has unveiled the trailer and key art for “Parallels,” its new French Original series which has been described as a fantasy sci-fi series in the vein of “Stranger Things.” All six episodes will launch on March 23 on Disney Plus’ platform worldwide.

“Parallels” tells the story of four friends — Bilal, Romane, Samuel and Victor — whose lives are turned upside down when a mysterious event scatters the group into different timelines. The four teenagers will do all they can to understand what has happened and try to get back to the carefree innocence of their former lives.

The series is headlined by teenagers and features many fresh faces, including Thomas Chomel (“Clem”), Omar Mebrouk, Jules Houplain (“Hpi”), Jade Pedri (“Ils étaient dix”), Naidra Ayadi and Guillaume Labbé. Sometimes a creator’s different instincts and plans don’t always play nice with each other. For example, a costumed-hero story has certain standard tropes: the hero can always leave the bad guys tied up with a nice note for the authorities and the reader knows that means justice has and will be done.

But if the same creator wants to do a story about corrupt cops in what seems to be a deeply corrupt city, tying up those cops will not have the same expected result: it just means their compatriots will untie them, maybe make fun of them, maybe get angry on their behalf. Frankly, it would just annoy Certain People even more: that’s an event for the middle of the story, not the end.
