Carolina's Calling

Surprisingly I don't Hate it!

Very very very very very very low budget. However, it was actually quite endearing. A very clean movie; which is hard to find these days.

The only thing that was about distracting was the fact that Antonio Sabato Junior and Stacey Dash were in this movie. I kept thinking... Are they taking this seriously ???

Lol Fun anyhow.

needed a tune-up

So three shady scientists fire up a blue box of energy, which will make all other forms of energy obsolete, and they don't even put on safety goggles. Stars antonio sabato as marty haas. Something or someone is calling marty to the east coast, but he's not sure why. We spend a lot of time on that idea, which they borrowed from close encounters. The script needs major work and most of the acting is less than stellar. I wondered if it was aimed at a younger crowd, but there is swearing, violence, even talk of bull genitals, so i guess it's not meant for kids! Later on, we revisit the energy invention; apparently, the explosion from the energy box knocked an alien's space ship out of the sky, right into the carolinas. An hour in, we have a plot! Marty agrees to help the alien. No details needed, we'll just get a welder and do it. So silly. I made it through to the end, but it took a lot of effort. Directed by michael saquella.

Carolina Calling - sorry wrong number

Yes it is a low budget indie pic and thoughts some of the comedy was interesting but the two female characters seem to be overly animated and over acting with awful southern accents. The over acting seems intentional but the lead male played the role fairly straight. I found it very annoying. There was little chemistry between the characters.

The movie spent a lot of time supposedly trying to do character development between the scenes that actually developed the plot. It came across as padding.

If the movie had the same comedic tone as toward the end with the alien, it would have been a lot better but the script/plot did not have it.

a nice little...

Charade over the issue , are there aliens in space? Its made on a buck, with very low quality special effects, its actors are b-grade semi pro local actors that returns now and then in low budget ''feature'' length flicks, so im familiar with the faces, except for ''bob'', the alien, with a head of a watermellon and 5 instead of 3 fingers...

its a scifi comedy that may entertain because of its silly storyline and plot, its slow and filled with props stolen from a wrekced submarine or any military radio shack, so lets just say its weird science and stop there, cause the grumpy old man gives a 5 for the try, it aint boring, and filled with love and emotions at homestandard level. Its a couldbeseen movie if everything else flops...

You Will Hate Yourself..........

............if you watch this movie.

I mean, it really can't get dumber than this. If you DO WATCH this movie, I think you will literally cause damage to your brain.

Acting? Horrible.

Special effects? Childish and pathetic.

Plot? Ridiculous..

I am just amazed that someone FUNDED something like this and said, "YEP! That's a great idea for a movie."

It's unbelievable.

Don't waste your time.

Was this a joke?

This isn't even as good as a 12 year olds YouTube video made for forty bucks. The acting and special effects are lame and pathetic. Don't waste your time with this dumpster fire.

Just to bolster the, "You Will Hate Yourself..." review

Not only is everything correct in the previous review - but to further enhance details of the plot - the actual script writing and dialogue is so mundane and tedious I remain baffled as to why anyone would want to actually film it or indeed think of acting in it. I have seen more convincing Kindergarten Nativity stuff. Just awful.

mediocre as ... (fill in the blank after watching it please!)

If this is a scifi movie, then it's a very mediocre one ...

if it's a comedy, then it's failing to deliver since after having watched it for more than 20 minutes i'm still waiting for a giggle or something ...

and the story, 'a revolutionary invention that can solve energy problems but oil cartels don't want it to be mass-produced because it's not good for business ...' is also a cliche' that's been touched and made into movies more than just a few times ...

acting is ok, but direction has made the overall experience into a 'product' of cheap amateurish art? So, i don't know how many stars out of ten would anyone give this on IMDb or anywhere?

Definitely Enjoyed this film, despite the Cynical Hater review

This was a cute sci-fi, comedy, family film. Nowadays, to find a film the entire family can watch together is extremely difficult. This is a great film that can be watched by all. No need to cover my preschooler's eyes, or mute scenes that I am embarrassed to hear in front of my grandmother. There should be more Feel-Good Movies made like this, instead of all the blood, gore, and backstabbing romance flicks. My 5th grader is going to play this at their slumber/birthday party this weekend. No need for the other parents to be concerned about inappropriate content.

I enjoy alien movies, and this had a much different storyline. Why go with all the normal aliens that are slimy, dangerous, and out to destroy the universe/galaxies. This film demonstrated kindness, creativity, and how it can "Take a Village" to achieve Universal Goals.

As for the prior reviews, not every film is made in Hollywood studios with millions of dollars, and A-listed actors and props. It is nice to see the movie industry endures smaller film-makers and actors, as the end-user wants to see a variety of Film-styles and Genres.

Having a small budget is no excuse!

There are a ton of well made, low budget films out there. Believe me. But this isn't one of them And that's no excuse whatsoever. Just because you have limited funds, doesn't mean you can't have a decent script. The writing in this film was absolutely atrocious. It seemed like it was written by a 12-year old.

It certainly didn't help that the acting was terrible as well. And I know exactly why there were several people posting about what a great movie it was. Can you say "Friends and Family?" That's exactly who gave this little stinker such high marks. Then they had the audacity to make fun of anyone who didn't agree with them. Oh well. If you looking to was a couple hours you'll never get back, watch this pointless "film".

CUTE ENOUGH INDIE FILM

The last two negative reviews seem a little over the top!!

Obviously Carolina's Calling is a lower budget, Indie film, nothing more, nothing less. With that in mind, it's a cute enough film, you'll get a few laughs!!

Love Bob The Alien

Very entertaining. Clean fun and Bob the alien was hysterical. The Idea of continuous energy is fascinating how they used it in the film. Stacy Dash is fantastic in the film.

Cute Family Adventure Film

Unique creativity with the story line. The outdoor scenes were beautiful. The special effects were good. This is a good movie to share with family, friends, Church groups... Wish this would have been released in the Theatres. This could have drawn a lot of fun with Bob the Alien Merchandise. Would enjoy a sequel, especially on the evolution of the Alien and the Hillbilly.

SIDENOTE: It seems as if the previous Cynical reviewer has some personal connection with this film and let personal bias and immaturity dominate the IMDB platform to objectively review films. Did they not get cast a back up role, or not some other component of film making.

Very funny and clean.

I liked the movie concept and the plot was easy to follow. What I like the most is that it was different, with a twist. The majority of the actors in the movie are well known and delivered on there performances. It's a movie you can sit down and watch with your kids and not have to cover there ears or eyes. The music is also refreshing. I liked what they did with Bob's character.

I would recommend this movie and watch it again.

Super cute little Indy flick

Cute, silly, entertaining for a low budget film but a great distraction and launch into a different dimension to get you away from the realities of life during a pandemic.

Sweet little story

Feel good story with some sci-fi adventure. The love story is cute, endearing and playful. Great job to all involved. The creativity of a new script writer kept me captivated while bring me laughter. This movie is for the lighthearted soul who enjoys that indi-vide creativity. Nice job.
