The big stars here were montgomery and hayes. Hayes had just won her oscar, and montgomery will be nominated for a couple in a few years. In the story, a young couple has just eloped, and when they return, victor's family isn't very welcoming to stella, the new bride. Vic's mother doesn't approve of stella's independent ways, and constantly says so to stella's face. But the real problem is that vic won't stand up for his own wife, and even backs up his mother. To make things worse, the nephew jerry falls for stella, and can't get over her. It's just on the cusp of the film code, so they were able to push the boundaries more than most films at the time. Can vic and stella move past all this? It's quite well done, which is surprising with all those writers... or maybe because of all those writers. Keep an eye out for margaret hamilton, six years before oz, and henry travers, from wonderful life! This had started out as a play by rose franken, with several actors performing their roles from the stage. Directed by ed griffith. I had seen several of his films, and they aren't bad!
Another story by roald dahl, just released on netflix. Again, starring ralph fiennes and ben kingsley, with dev patel and cumberbatch. And a shortie, at seventeen minutes. This one opens with a "krait', lying on harry's stomache, while he is sleeping in bed. Murricans should know that a krait is a venomous snake, from the family elapidae. These can be quite deadly, typically found in asia. Can they safely remove the snake without getting harry bitten? Lots of visuals... the fan blades, slowly turning. The walls and ceiling in patterns. But later on, the fans are turning very fast. Fun story! Well written and produced. What an adventure! And check out the card at the very end of the story. Directed by wes anderson.
Another one of the four short stories written by roald dahl, and just recently released by netflix. Fast talking, as the narrator relates the tale of another adventure. Again, with ralph fiennes and rupert friend. This time, fiennes is the rat chatcher, showing us the best ways to eliminate rats. Richard ayoade is the narrator. This one has a bit of a dark side, but they only off the rats. A larger than life story, but it could all happen! Directed by wes anderson. This one is about eighteen minutes long. No oscar for this one, but it's still interesting as part of dahl's collection of work.
