La Última Fase

Perhaps one of the most refreshing sci-fi films I've seen in the last ten years. With a low budget but great story and good actors this movie makes you have a good time and an old fashion style of a good alien-about plot. Indie, yes. Low budget, yes. Great film? Indeed.

Normally I am not overly keen on sci-fi movies, but every now and again I do sit down to watch the occasional sci-fi movie. And since I was given the chance to watch "La Última Fase" (aka "The Final Phase") I did sit down to watch it.

I had no idea what I was in for here with this 2020 movie from writer and director Gabriel Díaz, aside from it being a Spanish sci-fi movie. But hey, I went in here with an open mind, so writer and director Gabriel Díaz had every opportunity to bedazzle and impress me.

But ultimately this movie was a swing and a miss. The storyline was just unfathomably slow paced, and since nothing of any interest or worth happened as the movie trotted on, it just felt even more prolonged. I managed to watch about an hour of the ordeal, and then I just gave up out of frustration and boredom.

The acting in the movie wasn't really convincing, especially since all people were doing was sitting around and discussing alien abductions, ancient civilizations and what not. So there weren't much of anything interesting going on, unless you consider a debate club great entertainment.

And the movie was almost devoid of special effects, which was odd, as this was a sci-fi movie. Sure, there were some computer generate images here and there, but nothing overwhelmingly impressive.

"La Última Fase" failed to entertain me, and it is not a particularly impressive or memorable foray into the sci-fi genre. I am rating "La Última Fase" a mere two out of ten stars.

Interesting low budget movie. It is not perfect, but it is very interesting and forceful in its message.

Simple story with lots of information on the UFO theme for conspiracy lovers. Interesting characters and very decent visuals.

A movie to spend a Saturday or Sunday with the family. It reminded me in the style of the best episodes of The X Files.
