I believe you should be from Iran and know the vicissitudes of our intricate history to comprehend the film, otherwise, you won't get so much out of it or might find it boring. I truly enjoyed watching it. The cast could show our history throughly.
I strongly recommend watching this great movie to Iranians and those who know about our history.
If you like watching a grandmother talking with her picture frames on the wall around 90 minutes, see this movies.
The film was made in 1991 and was released in 1997. A film that may be thought to be about the events after the 1988 elections; But the reality is something else. The film is a complete narrative of history. Rewriting history and changing history based on what is expedient. Maybe these readings of this film are the reason for the 6-year wait for the release license. The spaces of the film are not too many, but the narratives continue throughout history and show the difference of thinking in generations. Some dialogues are brilliant and memorable. Like the dialogue between Shahab Hosseini and Saber Abar about the picture frame. The games are also good. However, the movie can be seen and even heard like a long story! Another piece of the story of this movie is back to that black plastic that contains "lovable junk". All that the old woman has about her husband, brother and children should be thrown away so that she does not get into trouble. From her husband's booze to VHS movies and cassette tapes and Marx's books, etc. It is a different film among Iranian films that narrate history.
This is a movie in which a set of events with the same political ideology are depicted frequently. The movie is overly focused on a event that is of low value. Humor was probably supposed to be a part of the movie. Dialogs and acts are in their least processed form so the audience could not get connected with the story.
If you've been living in Iran or are a fan of history in general, you'll be fascinated by this movie, watching this makes you wonder how it was screened in this situation where everything is censored or banned! So sad but true! I'm writing this in 2023, almost one year since the events in Iran in 2022. You can still relate to nearly everything that the movie is trying to say in a very cautious way that doesn't cross the redlines but tells the story of the past and current situations in Iran. This political movie is still relevant for the majority of people currently living a life in Iran. Also the acts and the music and edits are well made.
