A Celebration of Life will be held in Hollywood on August 12 for Lionsgate executive Jason Constantine, who died of cancer on June 3 aged 55.

The event will take place at 10am at First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood and is open to all who knew Constantine.

Jason Constantine, co-president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, has passed away at the age of 55 following a long battle with cancer, the studio announced on Thursday.

A beloved figure whose skill and kindness extended beyond the executive suite to every corner of the studio and industry, Constantine has been a member of the Lionsgate family almost from the studio’s inception, beginning his career more than 25 years ago as a director of acquisitions at Lionsgate’s predecessor company, Trimark Pictures.

Currently making waves at the Cannes Film Festival, the studio is shopping a prequel that will delve into the origins of John Rambo, an origin story that notably will not star Sylvester Stallone in the lead role (though a cameo isn't entirely off the table).

Millennium is financing the project and actively seeking distribution partners at the festival, with production anticipated to begin in October.

This trip into the past follows Millennium's previous franchise installments, Rambo (2008) and Rambo: Last Blood (2019). With a few weeks to go, the first tracking data for Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is out and it seems as though his ace Imf agent Ethan Hunt is gearing up to go out with a bang.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, The Final Reckoning is currently looking at an opening in the $72 million to $88 million range, with box office pundits targeting a $80 million domestic launch over the course of the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend, which would be a franchise-best, topping the $61.2 million three-day launch for Mission: Impossible - Fallout in 2018.

Meanwhile, Disney's Lilo & Stitch is expected to open around $120 million over the four-day holiday, with projections expecting something in the $110 million to $130 million range, so based on these early estimates, it seems like we're in for one of the biggest movie weekends since 2023's Barbenheimer.

The Stath once again plies his gloriously violent trade in A Working Man, which finds The Beekeeper star on familiar ground as a man with a secret past who must resurrect his particular set of skills after his boss and friend's daughter is kidnapped by human traffickers.

Directed by The Beekeeper’s David Ayer, and with a script from Statham’s Expendables co-star Sylvester Stallone, A Working Man also stars David Harbour (Stranger Things), Michael Peña (End of Watch), Jason Flemyng, Arianna Rivas (The Black Phone 2), Noemi Gonzalez (Selena: The Series), and Emmett J. Last year’s spin-off to one of Gerard Butler’s most beloved action thriller franchises, the Has Fallen saga, will return for more. Paris Has Fallenis a French and English-language action series which debuted on Canal+ before landing on both Prime Video and Hulu. Critically well-received, it has now been confirmed that the spin-off will return for a second season, with Paris Has Fallen Season 2 now in production and with filming now underway in the United Kingdom.

Released in the latter part of last year, Paris Has Fallen transports the action to the French capital, and follows Tewfik Jallab (Squad 36) as a protection officer who teams up with Ritu Arya’s (The Umbrella Academy) MI6 operative to stop a terrorist group led by Jacob Pearce, played by Mission: Impossible villain Sean Harris.

The Has Fallen series, which was spun off of the Gerard Butler movies — Olympia Has Fallen, London Has Fallen and Angel Has Fallen — will be getting a new season as confirmed by Canal+. The debut season, which was titled Paris Has Fallen, brings a lot of what made the movies successful to the show. Canal+ CEO Maxime Saada today confirmed a second season of the action thriller series, which was spun out of the Has Fallen films, is in production in the UK on a second season. Season 1, Paris Has Fallen, was set in the French capital with some filming taking place in London.

Saada revealed the news in comments prepared for Canal+’s preliminary full-year 2024 results.

“Studiocanal’s first-ever global TV series Paris Has Fallen, based on the successful Has Fallen film franchise, was a smashing success in all Canal+ pay-tv territories, as well as on Amazon Prime in the UK and Hulu in the United States,” he said. “It will naturally be followed by a second season now shooting in the UK.”

Without question, the Has Fallen movie trilogy written by Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt is one Hollywood franchise that should be analyzed and studied. Starring Gerard Butler as Secret Service agent Mike Banning and Morgan Freeman (in various roles), each of the three movies barely passed their budget in North American box office totals and didn’t receive the best praise from critics. Albeit, the first and third films — 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen and 2019’s Angel Has Fallen — actually lead when it comes to the two aforementioned categories. On the other hand, 2016’s London Has Fallen, which sees Banning escort president Benjamin Asher out of the vice of Islamic terrorists, seems to have taken an even greater misstep.

Jason Statham’s upcoming film Mutiny has now been given a release date, according to Deadline. Lionsgate has given the new action thriller an opening on January 9, 2026. That weekend is currently not sporting competition from any other films, but it will be following up the opening week of Universal’s M3GAN spin-off Soulm8te, which could be its only formidable challenge at the box office after the popularity of the original M3GAN.

Lionsgate, MadRiver, and Punch Palace are teaming up to release the film in theaters. Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis wrote the screenplay for Mutiny, with principal photography beginning last September in the UK. Statham produces through his newly-founded Punch Palace Productions, with Marc Butan via his MadRiver Pictures studio.

According to Deadline, Black Bear has commenced production on Statham's next action movie in the UK and Ireland with Ric Roman Waugh in the director's chair. Waugh is perhaps best known for directing a trio of action movies starring Gerard Butler — Angel Has Fallen (2019), Greenland (2020), and Kandahar (2023). He also recently wrapped filming on the sequel, Greenland: Migration, which is expected to be released in 2025. Baltasar Kormakur was previously attached to direct but had to exit for undisclosed reasons.

The film will be an action thriller that is currently untitled, but the film is now being said to be underway in the U.K. and Ireland for Black Bear. The company introduced the film to the Cannes market, co-representing the U.S. rights with Range Select, and plans to take it to the European Film Market.
