A "Love the 80s" concept album

A concept album of a punk rock filmmaker! Set in the 1980s, but created in the 21st century, with all the problems that contains (as expertly highlighted in the 'post end credits' section), this is a superb showpiece of the filmmakers art set in almost a music video catalogue style. The story is told without words, where image is king and action is secondary, but with the ability to mesmerise and ensure that a full length feature film is encapsulated in just 13 minutes. A lovingly told tale, that focuses on a potential future, and merges it into the here and now.

Not a bad movie. Just messy.

Shane should be directing. Not acting. This film was great. Balls to the wall violence with a sprinkle of drama inbetween. Also the acting was very good. Some parts of the editing was messy but other than that. Very good.

    Trip Down Memory Lane

This short from Shane Ryan definitely captures the spirit of the '80's...for me the early '80's.

It's a fun little adventure that kind of invoked memories of Troma to me, right down to the music. For me, that's a good thing.

Wow, not like Ryan's other work!

I was starting to love the real and raw and brutal and poetic style of filmmaker Shane Ryan's other movies, but this is such a contrast in comparison. It seemed to still have some of the similar, I don't know what to call it, vibes/aspects/moments? But here he presents a big budget concept on what is surely the zero budgets he's known to work with. Not sure how some of this was pulled off with nothing (the 80s backdrop that is), but it totally works! I hope this can be a full feature one day, as it feels like an intro to one. It's bloody in moments, fun, nostalgic to the 80s, innocent, violent, just a strange and fun mix!

Originally the film was not set to take place in the 80's, and was a much more serious story. A couple days into filming, director Shane Ryan re-watched J.J. Abrams' Super 8, and decided to set the film in the late 80's, and turn the story into more of a bizarre and comical adventure . The actor, Mars Mohamed, who plays a filmmaker in Guerrilla, would have been about the same age that Ryan was in 1989. Ryan began making movies as a child in the mid 80's. Most of the props used in the film were actually items Ryan had bought in the 80's and stored away. The rest of the props were either owned by the actors or found on location.
