The main character Akira, played by Kento Matsunami, is named after the legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa. His father Takashi is named after Japanese actor Takashi Shimura, who starred in such Kurosawa films as Vivre (1952), Les 7 Samouraïs (1954), and Chien enragé (1949).
