Jomonte Suviseshangal makes a one time watch only because of Dulquer and Mukesh.

Jomonte Suviseshangal (2017): Dulquer Salman is one of the most charming actors of Indian Cinema.Despite of his filmography confined to only Malayalam and Tamil,he got good following in Telugu too. After OK Kanmani and Bangalore Days,I have became a huge fan of him and started watching all his movies.Jomonte Suviseshangal is his first film in 2017 and as usually I had huge expectations on this film.So how is it?

Plot: Vincent (Mukesh) is a wealthy businessman in Thrissur. He has various investments but his primary business is real estate. He has four children, including Jomon (Dulquer). Everyone in the family is money-minded except for Jomon who is a misfit. Being the son of a wealthy businessman, Jomon has no worries about his future and lives life on his terms. Due to a bad business decision, Vincent loses all his wealth and house. While all his other children and close relatives make it clear that they want no part in his struggle, Jomon steps in and takes his father under his wing.So how did both the father and son struggle and retain their gone status forms the rest of the story..

    Plus Points:

1)Performances: Once again Dulquer gave his charming performance with perfection. His look, his dialogue delivery and especially his smile are so delightful.Mukesh has given brilliant performance as father.Their father-son relationship is the major plus point of the movie.

2)Second half: After a poor first half, second half came as a relief.Even though it is predictable,it manages to garner our attention with delightful performances and scenes.

    Minus Points:

1)Outdated Plot: This movie has the most outdated plot I had ever seen in Dulquer's career. This movie has the almost same plot ad Gowtham SSC,with changes in second half.

2)First half: Except one or two scenes, entire first half fails to engage us.Predictable narration and beaten to death love track between Dulquer and Anupama is so boring.

3)Duration: This movie has lengthy duration of 2hr 35 min and especially first half irritates us.

So,Jomonte Suviseshangal makes a one time watch only because of Dulquer and Mukesh.

    My rating 6.25/10

Old Wine, but still tastes good.

Sathyan Anthikkad is one of those senior directors of Malayalam cinema who is still pretty much active in the industry, coming up with a film every year. His films are known for their humor based screenplays, situational comedies, stories of common man, good music and clean dialogues without any sexual innuendos or double meaning dialogues. All these factors have garnered him the title Family Director as family audience can vouch for his films, without any second thought. He is one of those rare filmmakers who has made successful films with the Superstars as well as the young stars, only Prithviraj being an exception. So when Sathyan Anthikkad announced a movie with Dulquer Salman in the lead, expectations were sky high — for various reasons. This is a first time collaboration with Mammooty's son who has preferred urban based stories and characters mainly in his career so far. Also Dulquer is on a winning streak with 3 continuous box office hits -Charlie, Kali and Kammattipaadam. With a minimum guarantee director and the most popular youth star coming together, we can expect nothing but a blockbuster in the making. Jomonte Suvisheshangal tells the tale of a highly successful businessman, Vincent, played by Mukesh and his prodigal son Jomon played by Dulquer. Jomon, the third child of Vincent is a carefree, happy go lucky guy who is aimless, irresponsible and passes time spending his father's hard earned money recklessly, while all his siblings and in laws are well settled. The story takes a turn when Vincent, who considers money making an art, makes a wrong business decision, thereby losing all his wealth and assets. How this event transforms Jomon and makes him responsible forms the rest of the story. The story line is simple, predictable and very familiar to Malayalam audience through the director's own Veendum Chila Veettukarayangal and last year's box office hit, Jacobinte Swargarajyam. With a very familiar story line, predictable and obvious climax what keeps the audience engaged in this film which runs for 150+ minutes is the earnest performances by Mukesh and Dulquer. Mukesh gets one of the best characters of his career through Vincent and he is also a hero of the film. The first half sequences is rich in situational comedies with Innocent and Sivaji Guruvayoor while the actor excels in the emotional sequences with Dulquer in the latter half. Dulquer plays it safe here — a role which offers no challenge to him yet he puts in effort to make it different. His comic timings are also improving. Sivaji Guruvayoor once again proves with his matured performance that the character role artists of Malayalam cinema shall not be forgotten. Innocent shines in a few comedy sequences, but the character is shallow. Among the heroines, Anupama Parameswaran has nothing to do, but a song sequence while Aishwarya Rajesh's innocent face was cute. This is her debut film, also for Tamil actor Manobala. Gregory Jacob as Jomon's sidekick Mushtaq provides a few laughs but I fear he is getting type casted with the same expressions and dialogue delivery. Dr. Iqbal Kuttipuram has a list of some good films to his credit — Niram, Arabikatha, Diamond Necklace, Oru Indian Pranayakatha and Vikramadityan to name a few. The writing is good but a bit stretched and certain moments like Jomon kissing his dad and saying I still love you to distract him whenever he lands in trouble and the moment of the film in the second half where Vincent throws away a pack of his favorite 555 cigarettes saying he wants to see his son for many more years were really touching and heart warming. On the technical side, everything is as usual for a Sathyan Anthikkad film, which requires no special mentioning. One of the few things I noticed in the film is the absence of a strong female lead. Though there are many female characters with plenty of scope, none of them leaves a mark. Sathyan Anthikkad's usual gang of atrists — Mamukoya and KPAC Lalitha were also missing in this film. Even though the film has its drawbacks and its for sure that comparisons will be drawn with Jacobinte Swargarjyam and Veendum Chila veettukaryangal, the warmth and depth of the father son bond between Jomon and Vincent is a treat to watch and the realization that Vincent goes through towards the end of the film that money is not everything in life will be an eyeopener to at least a few among us. Go for it, you won't be disappointed.

Movie that makes you smile :)

The long awaited Sathyan Anthikad film not only manages to hit the box office with a loud thunder but also manages to capture the hearts of the audience. Unlike those fantastically built comedy movies, this one manages to bring a smile on our faces. The story line is build around Jomon (DQ) who is a lazy but interesting character. DQ played the role amazingly well. His smile is always soothing to watch. The story is pretty decent with two well placed songs and two different actress which i feel suited the story line of the movie. Mukesh (father) played a very decent role with this brilliant acting skills as usual. The movie focused more on the story rather than the entertaining part with is sort of a drawback but yet it's a success. Pretty expectant for a Sathyan Anthikad film and an unusual approach by DQ to this role. In short, Every actor and crew did a wonderful job. So glad i watched this movie. Some scenes in this movie will touch your heart while some will just make you smile. The title seems more like a working title as it is completely misplaced from the expecting story line.

Jomonte Suvisheshangal Movie Review & Rating

When we think about movies directed by Sathyan Anthikad, the most striking aspects that pop into our minds are that of all of them barring a very few have the goodness factor visible in them and also the simplicity of the plot. The subjects giving stress for family values and relationships will have a social relevance in it. The background that Sathyan chooses to elaborate his plot will also be pretty much the same not for all but for a majority of his flicks.

These are all the attributes that make a Sathyan Anthikad movie a special one for the majority of the audience and more particularly for the family audience among whom the director and his films have a special place in their heart. Though off late, this fan base has eroded to an extent as a result of repetition in the treatment of the movies. Still, people seriously look forward to his films with much anticipation expecting a minimum level of entertainment.

Jomontay Suvisheshangal, the latest Sathyan Anthikad movie finally reaches the audience after all those incidents that were casting a bad shadow for our industry. This time its new generation actor Dulquer Salman the chosen one who is given the mantle to lead the film scripted by Iqbal Kuttipuram who was the scriptwriter for Oru Indian Pranayakatha which was also directed by Sathyan Anthikad.

Feel Good, Family Movie that Could Have Been Better

What I like about Sathyan Anthikad directed movies is that you're guaranteed clean entertainment. Jomonte Suvisheshangal is another feel good, family movie from his stable but I miss the touch he'd during the 1990s. Maybe his writers has changed over the years, I'm not sure what has happened but his movies these days miss the charm and spontaneity of his older works from the 90's era. Also, this movie seem quite inspired by last year's release Jacobinte Swargarajyam which has a similar theme.

Ultimately I think what saves this movie from being an average flick is the humor especially from actors like Innocent. The performances from the cast are good. Dulquer Salmaan as the lead does very well(dance, comedy, emotions) but this man is capable of much more. He's ably supported by Mukesh as his father. Aishwarya Rajesh as the leading lady is very good. Anupama Parameshwaran makes a nice impact in a shorter role as Dulquer's love in the initial scenes. Jacob Gregory as Dulquer's business partner provides good comic relief like Innocent in the movie.

The songs are also pleasant to hear.

The final scene has a big influence on your overall opinion of the movie and in this movie, it fell short of my expectation. It ends on a positive note but it felt ordinary and predictable.

To sum up, I can say this movie is somewhere between excellence and mediocre. Although I frankly expected more from a Sathyan Anthikad direction, it has many touching & funny moments and like I said earlier, if what you seek is clean family entertainment, go for it.
