OK, firstly let it be known that I love game of throne. I have recently re-watched the entire series again in preparation for season 8. This episode for me was a complete and utter let down. Visually very boring with the same type of repetitive shot over and over again.
This was a long battle, yes. but long for the sake of being long does not equal good. It was bad. Very bad. The pseudo deaths were also extremely annoying, as soon as you think a major player was gone, they turn back up again to once again defeat the terrible odds they face. The plot armor is strong with this one. The CGI was sub-par and I think that is why they went with the muddy dark tone of the episode. This is not the Game of thrones I fell in love with all those years ago. This is just another mediocre, bloated contrived mess like all the other average shows out there. Come on GOT you're better than this. You could of at least shown the scene where everyone was handed out teleportation juice and plot armor.
There were a few moments spread throughout the episode I thought were cool. But that's it, a few moments. The episode as a whole was just so disappointing. I don't understand all these 10/10 reviews, clearly blind fan boy/girl sheep who are in denial?
4/10 - please don't ruin this series by jumping the shark with these last 3 episodes.

So I am reading reviews everywhere!
Majority are angry about the episode! HOW IN THE WORLD IS IT a 9.0???

Firstly, massive credit to the music composer for this episode, the music was absolutely perfect, but that was about it.
The visuals were great! But only on second viewing when having playback in 4k whilst also having the brightness on maximum, nobody could see what was going on at all throughout the episode if it wasn't in 4k quality, which is a horrible experience.
The writing was as if they got a 9 year old with no knowledge of game of thrones to write it, the army tactics were absolutely tragic and the amount of plot armour is actually unreal, screw the final battle against Cercie, just let Jon Snow run at the Lannister army all on his own, his plot armour will save him.
Summarising, this was a gigantic middle finger to every single fan.

season 7: winter has come
season 8e3: winter has gone
While I enjoyed the episode as I saw it, despite being so dark, those feelings immediately changed as soon as it ended and I felt like this wasn't the GoT I've come to love over the years. It pains me to say that I can't bring myself to be excited for the next episode.
Considering the disappointing end to this whole White Walker part, I have a feeling that DnD will disappoint with the ending of the show itself as well.

- TriviaFilming this episode required 55 nights of filming over 11 weeks, and an unknown number of day shoots on stages, with roughly 750 cast and crew members. It was also a moving shoot that had to adjust with the moon. Several actors described this episode as the hardest thing they ever filmed. Maisie Williams (Arya) stated in Entertainment Weekly, "Nothing can prepare you for how physically draining it is. It's night after night, and again and again, and it just doesn't stop. You can't get sick, and you have to look out for yourself because there's so much to do that nobody else can do... there are moments you're just broken as a human and just want to cry." Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont) described it as a "real test, really miserable. You get to sleep at seven in the morning and when you wake in the midday you are still so spent you can't really do anything, and then you're back. You have no life outside it." Rory McCann (the Hound) concurred: "Everybody prays they never have to do this again." Glenn did add that it was only worse for the crew, since unlike the actors, they had to be on set at all times.
- GoofsDuring Jon's stand-off with undead Viserion, he avoids a burst of dragon fire by hiding behind a small rock. However, this would result in Jon's death, as Viserion's fire has been shown to be capable of burning through castle walls (and even through the Wall).
